note the light brown edges to the water. i see this weird effect all over the place in HL2, when i'm standing well above the water only. it appears to affect only water of a certain depth

why can't valve just leave the water alone? this is the 2nd time they've messed it up

Is that a dx problem or did they just **** it up with an update?

They didn't screw anything up. That would be your comp.

My water is fine, i'm even drinking a glass now. The problem lies with your computer setup including your hardware and drivers you are using. So if its a reoccuring problem it probably stems from you.

Yep. Water is fine on my end. Your graphics card is acting up...

No, don't drink the water. They put something in it, to... to make you forget.

That looks identical to what happens when you play Half-life 2 Xbox on the Xbox 360. The surfaces under the water appear to be lower than what is aboice it. so you can see the 'blue hell' at the edges of the water. A.K.A you can see the skyboxes.

I think its something to do with how your comp is rendering the refractions on the water. Theres a console command, its like, 'mat_wateroverlaysize x' or 'cl_wateroverlaysize x' or something like that. That could help, but i really dont know.

if i need to update my drivers to make the water look the same as it did when i first bought the game, then a recent engine update is partly to blame, as well as my non-updated drivers

my h/w is a 6600GT

the 'glitch' is very specific: it only affects water at a certain depth (i.e. from 0 to about 16 units give or take), and only when seen from a reasonable height overhead

i'm updating my drivers, to see if that works...

edit: ok that fixt it. now the game looks just like it did 18 months ago, when i bought it. well done valve/nVidia

Valve pretty much recommend that you ensure you are using upto date graphics drivers. You'll find they are free to download from www.nvidia.com. Ensure you fully uninstall the existing drivers before installing the new ones.

I'm not bashing nVidia, but Source was specifically designed for ATI cards. :)

dont blame valve for ur pc being crappy and out of date or ur drivers are not up to date.
