So.. what happaned to the borealis part?

Is it taken out completely? It was still (in parts of level and references) present in the leak, so even in september 2003 they still toyed with it... or was it just leftover stuff from earlier days?

It looked like awesome stuff so I hope it still makes it in somehow...

I think people who've looked through the cache files say its gone completely.. either its gone for good, or its gonna be released later as an addon.. or maybe its more geared for some Alyx expansion.

Hope it does come back, was very similar to that movie Virus.. so would be pretty spooky to play.

From what I understand from...ahem...another fan site (that shall remain unknown), the Borealis level wasn't even part of the "compiled" version of the leak (completed levels) but was part of something called a "map pack" that you had to compile in order to play.

The Borealis level was scrapped prior to E3 2003 because they chose to have the story go in a different direction - primarily because if Borealis was used, Alyx would have been a COMPLETELY different character and her importance to the storyline would have been far less that it is now.

Furthermore, Borealis was going to be used to carry Gordon to City 17 but that was changed to the train ride.

u see, these are the kind of reasons why i was angry about the contents of the CE and Gold packages.
tell me an "Extras Disc" wouldn't be worth it which would contain enemies, levels and misc. stuff like the borealis part, weapons which were considered but didn't make it..

i am willing to bet the CE and Gold packages option would be way more popular had Valve/VU done something like this.. oh well.. whats done is done :|

Nah, it was completely there including props and everything (even icebergs n stuff) in the first release, no extra 'map pack' required.

But I believe there were already characters specifically for that scene and correct me if im wrong, but some even already had speech. Seems like a big waste to just delete that imo.

On the other hand, it might just be a load of crap slapped together and the speech of valve employees or something
