I think its insane delaying it 6 months, i understand they must re-write a part of the source code but cmon 6 months ? thats instane if you ask me.

I doubt they'd delay it at this point. Vivendi is just making stupid comments, from what I can tell. I don't people should really be worrying about it. Nothing adds up to them having to delay for half a year, especially with them needing the money. It may not have been meant come out the 30th, but I have optimism it'll come within the next 2 1/2 months. You'll see...or I'll look like a moron.

Becuase some hacker jerk didn't break into Touchstone to steal Night Before Christmas, or any other movie. It was bought and copied. Once someone buys something it becomes their property and they can do with it as pleased. They aren't selling it, so are there are no feasible grounds for a law suit based on infringement. It's like burning money. The Govt. says itdestruction of Govt. property, thus I cannot burn it. But I worked for that money damnit and I'll do as I please.
That's difference, and that's what stops me from D/Ling it. Just as I'm sure it's what stops others from getting it, that, and the fear of ruining the experience.

6 months is a long time. We all understand that. But you got to remember that the game they've made is already done. It will take for goddamn ever to rewrite the code so it justifies the already done game. It should take about 4 months. The other two months can be spent on whatever. Always give things more time than less time.

it's just a bump on the road... a bad one, but still just a bump.. Those who think that HL2 is dead and the gaming industry is gonna die cuz of this have no faith in game developers. Games are a growing industry and will continue to grow for a long time. No matter what some hacker does.

Unless we all decide to not buy this game cuz "valve lied to us" or some petty reason like that (which will not happen duh) then this game will sell as much as it was gonna sell before... maybe even more now, the "leak" is HUGE advertising, whether you like it or not.

valve will survive all of this and so will the gamers

It would be nice if Valve would TELL us what the f-ck will happen. They've had plenty of time to access their situation and come up with a preliminary plan atleast.

A Vivendi rep coming out so soon after the theft was discovered and saying the game is pushed back to April 2004, and then a followup saying it's not confirmed, is very troubling. Why they insist on making decisions before Valve has made any sort of assessment is even more troubling.

Who is in charge over there? Valve or Vivendi?

I'm banking on Vivendi, because so far their "miscommunications" have turned out to be true.

I want Valve to come out and tell us just 2 things:

1) the current status of HalfLife 2 development
2) when they plan on shipping the game

That's all I want to know. I don't care about anon, Gabe, Doug, the theft, lawsuits, security, AI scripting, Vivendi, wisecracks about Fragmaster, beta screenshots or anything else.

I don't care about the FBI investigation, who has been arrested, how they got into Valve, how much of the game they got, what else they got, or anything else.

Surely they've had plenty of time to assess their situation and come up with a preliminary plan. Lot's of gamers are anxiously waiting for Valve to say something. There is so much speculation and rumor floating around that I can't stand it anymore. Valve OWES us an update. Because the longer they wait, the more people will be tempted to download the stolen material. The more there will be for hackers to dig into the source code. The more time there will be for competitors to study the source code and borrow some proprietary ideas from it, without compensation.
