so i hear that people are getting low fps with any of the 6800 cards outdoors, but not indoors? is there apatch for this or a fix or anything?! please answer quick, as im ordering my new computer today with a 6800 gt or 6800 OC in it and want to know whats up with this problem.

thanks!

Rule of thumb from anandtech.com:

Half Life 2's performance is generally shader (GPU) limited when outdoors and CPU limited when indoors; now this rule of thumb will change if you run at unreasonably high resolutions (resolutions too high for your GPU) or if you have a particularly slow CPU/GPU, but for the most part take any of the present day GPUs we are comparing here today and you'll find the above statement to be true.

But you dont really need a fix, since there is no problem to fix :)

In order to get low frames outside, you would have to pick a outdoor.level with lots of water.shaders, and run it at 1600x1200/8xaa/16af, other than that any 6800 will delivere a satisfactory game experience.

If you desperatly need more frames from you 6800gpu, changing the water.setting from "reflect all" to "reflect world" gives quite a boost.
