So will HL2 be released all over the world at the same time?

According to valve, its to be a worldwide simultanious release.

Also according to valve, its supposedly coming out the 30th.

Well lets hope so...

We still got no confident offical say yet things always getting chucked about....

They've kinda hedged their bets by saying, it will be available worldwide through Steam on the same date, which is different than saying that you're local computer shop in Kabul will have it at the same time as an EB in Seattle. I think it will take up to a month to get HL2 in many parts of this big world of ours. Globalization is pretty widespread, but still has its limits (thank god).

Well, going just by what Valve has been saying, you can put just as much faith in it being a worldwide distribution on the same day as you can on the day of release being the 30th.

If it does come out on the 30th (and this year's Golden Heart for Optimism Award goes to...<Drum roll>...Doomaniac!) then I'm worried it still won't come out n the UK till that friday - that's when all our games are usually released. Although actually it bothers me not, as I won't be playing it for at least the first week but that's a different story.

As someone living in the UK I think Steam is going to be a very important motivator for VU to release the game here around the same time as the US release. I don’t think they will want to loose all those sales to people with broadband like myself downloading it from Steam.

Personally I intend to give then one week after the US release.

I actually have a theory that this is what happened with the November delay rumour. VU told Valve they wanted to delay until November for marketing reasons. Valve said fine but our contract said we have the rights to publish through Steam from 30th September. VU thought of all the lost sales and backed down.

One thing VU are going to loose a sale to meand those like me, if they intend to delay until November in the UK. Steam & broadband means UK gamers no longer need to put up with this sort of thing.

No offense, but your theory's a bit odd to say the least.
I doubt very much that Valve and Vivendi's contract states that Valve have the rights to publish it through Steam from Sept 30th, but rather that Valve have the right to sell it through Steam when it has been shipped off to be sold in real shops. Therefore, if it was delayed until November, then it would not go through Steam until November. Vivendi aren't stupid.
Also, if it was ready by the 30th, then why delay selling real copies until November? That whole "Christmas Rush" theory's a load of crap anyway.
My point was that most games videos and films in the UK are released on a friday, and so would this be the same with HL2 (30th=tuesday)? If this was true then boo-hoo we don't gt the game for an extra 3 days or so. No big deal.

get what shipped? you don't honestly think they make all the copies in America do you?

I'm from Denmark and they told me that it'll be released in Denmark Oct. 7th or something like that....

Who told you that? thats a complete opposite to what good ol Gabe said. I know in some countrys the game isn't being released at all, never mind on time but Denmark??

Hmm I talked with Vivendi Denmark earlier today and they said there would come an *official* press release tonight concerning the release of Half-Life 2. He said he wheren't allowed to tell me more than that, (he prolly didn't know anything more though).

It was on the phone so I cant show off any emails eighter.
