Seeing as everyone is posting old news, I thought I'd post this. Four videos showing off various Half-Life 2 related things for XSI. Also, it shows off the glare on the eyes, which is amazing.

Also there are two new interesting things about Half-Life 2:

Judith Mossman: A female character that's apparently very important.

Lamarr: Something female that gets out of a cage (you have to watch carefully to find the references to her). I think it's a headcrab, personally.
 
Yeah, I was about to make a thread about this Feath.


Good to know I am not the only one picking up stuff like Lamarr in the cage :p
 
Does anyone have another place to download these movies from? I don't really like Fileplanet, any help much appreciated
 
goddamn fileplanet... seems like the only place. i've been in line for 45 minutes.

Don't worry guys, its worth it if your into trying to learn about XSI like me. Its also kinda funny to listen to em. Funny guys!

The "self" prompt for character scripts sounds really cool - the character will do something random in relation to the dialogue e.g. look out the window, look at themselves etc. That should make conversations a lot more realistic :D
 
i downloaded the videos. alot of what they were talkin about was over my head (im no 3d animator). i didnt catch the lamar cage thing, where was it?
 
I dont normally post much on these forums (prefer to lurk), but these videos really are worth a look if your into machinima, it seems like valve are really putting the modder into the directors chair.
I was really looking forward to HL2 anyway but this seems like a giant step forward into the concept of interactive movies. Cant wait!
The commentry is pretty funny as well.

BTW, nice to see hl2.net back.

To be honest, I look more forward to the fanmade machinima movies than to playable mods. I think there's no limit to the complexity of such a movie scene.
 
Wow!! I just watched the first one, this is great!!! Best hl2 related video in a while! Theres over an hour of footage total! In good res! And it's HL2!! Omg!! *Faints*
 
Good video's, a bit nerdy, but cool :E

Part 2 is the most interesting, with Mossman. Very cool to know that eyes are just purely shaders, not even geometry.
And Lamarr is in part 3 I think with Faceposer when there's a line in the program somwhere that says that Kleiner should look at Lamarr, and somewhere the Valve guy also mentions Lamarr, but no way to know what 'it' is.
 
Oh so now i see how they make them lip synch. They make them talk out the sound,like if you look at (vid 3 i think?) you see that kliener is saying "Lammar got out of her cage again" and under the text its like "la, m, a, r, ga, t, a, ut, of, he, r, k,a,g, a,g, aen" thats pretty cool

Yeah and in part 2 it says how to setup the face for that. For example frame 10 is the phoneme for a.

I now see how much HL2 is ahead of other games in terms of modding, they pretty much got their own customized modeling package for free for all people.

But this game will mean a lot to Avid with Softimage, while you can still model stuff for HL2 in 3dsmax or Maya, it's pretty much impossible to properly set it up for game use without XSI. So everyone will use it, and EXP is legal (I bet 70% or more of the modding community has illegal 3d packages) so they could become the biggest player in the modding industry.
 
Anyone else notice how the Antlion can dig?

Unfortunately I was spoiled about mossman a long time ago thanks to some soviet union HL2 beta sites. Although I didn't knew her name was Mossman. Ugly name.

I think it's great how Valve have managed to keep one of the main character's secret. I mean, except for the leak.

I'm glad I didn't see much related to the leak.
 
If you guys wanna know more about mossman, feel free to ask..umm i also picked up that CIA transmission with my teeth..yea..

*walks away*hehehe suckers they dont suspect a thing :hmph:
 
There is a video here with Valve talking about using XSI, and some footage of the e3 vids (better quality than the old ones) as well as them using XSI on hl characters. And NO FILEPLANET! Bwahahahaha!
 
Just by looking at her I can already tell Mossman is going to be a real B**** :)
 
I don't know.........you can't really tell much with a character with no expression on their face.


I loved those videos though. Really cool and those guys were funny.

favorite part: Flying attack... (they hit play, the ant lion jumps off the screen)

both guys: WOAH!!!!!

too funny. and those ant lion anims are crazy. and so's the blending tech.
 
that was rather cool. i loved how they burrowed. im so excited to fight those things.
 
check out movie 3, 2:48. they say "it's not your imagination, he is looking...right at you"

but he's not. dr. kleiner is looking right over my right shoulder, off into space. do you think that's a small bug that can be corrected? i have a vague recollection of an old Siggraph vid where they looked at Alyx in the same model viewer and she was looking right at you.

i hope kleiner won't be looking over your shoulder for the whole game... that would make me feel like there was some monster behind me. :)

maybe i'll write rick ellis an e-mail.

EDIT: yeah, in the old siggraph 03 video, her eyes are definetly tracking at the camera perfectly... maybe it's a bug in the model they used for GDC.
 
I was kinda spoiled about the digging ant lion thing. I knew that would be one of the things in game that i would have been like OOH FCKING SWEET when I saw it happen.
 
yeah, i know what you mean. but i have a feeling it will still be a "wow" moment.
 
Spiffae, yeah I had the feeling too when they said that like 'no he isn't looking at me', but that's only when his left side is facing me, when his right side does (like on 3:04) I do feel like he's looking right at me.

How do you think the digging is done btw?
Probably they play the animation, a tunnel model (like you see in the beginning of bugbait) is spawned and the antlion spawns behind you again in the ground and another model is spawned of the tunnel or something like that?
