First of all - Apologies if these questions are answered elsewhere, but I cannot run a search through these boards for SDK - I think it's too short a search term. Anyhow, I've set the title of this post to something that might be searched for ;). Now, onto the questions - some obvious, some not...

1. I don't suppose we have any idea when the SDK will be available for download? I was waiting eagerly for a while, checking HL2 sites often, but got bored of that... lol

2. Is the SDK release likely to be similar to that of HL1 - in the sense that we will be able to freely download the MP Mod version, but will have to sign an NDA and send off for the full version?

3. Am I going to have a hope in hell of being able to download it on my 56k modem. ;)

Again - sorry if I'm being blind, but answers weren't found in the obvious places I've looked. Now, are there any HL2 Coding sites already born, or should I start work on one...? hehe

Welcome to the Forums :)

1. Yeah, Valve used to say that the SDK would be available before HL2 has been released, but I believe now they've changed that to when HL2 is shipped.

2. I have no idea, maybe someone else here does? Probably a better question to go to Valve themselves.

3. Good luck :)

As for coding sites... I think The Wavelength will be covering HL2 coding once the time comes. Other then that, not quite sure.

First of all, try using Google or looking at the VERC.- I think that will give you the right results.

Now on to the answer - obvious or not...

1. What Argyll said.
2. NDA? Full version? Send off? What is usually refered to as the 'full' SDK is the MP one but with all the AI code. It also has a lot of documentation, examples etc. They included the Hammer editor and a couple of example maps in the full SDK.

3. Should be easy. Get/use a download manager of some sort. Assuming you have 4 hour blocks before getting disconnected then you might need say, 2 or 3 of them to get it all. Depends on your connection speed - 56k is not always 56k :( I feel your pain.

Of course 3 may not count because you *may* get it on CD with the boxed version.. if you are ify about the SDK then I doubt you are going to grab HL2 via steam anytime soon..

Many thanks for the info. Yeah - that's a really good link, I remember stumbling across it many moons ago - thanks for presenting it to me again!! I was just wondering if we had any more up to date info, considering the guide was written about 8 months ago ;)

FragBait - Good thought, it would be great if they released the SDK on the game Cd - would just be really handy.

It would be kewl if they did that. And remember hl1 - the editor was on the CD. *shrug
