does anyone have any experience with it? im downloading the x86 version of it to give it a whirl, and im just wondering if anyone else has anything to say about it... which i expect is no.

Not personally. Which version? 9 I guess. I have heard a lot of great things about Solaris 10.

What kind of hardware do you have for it?

definatly not a sparc cpu. id be running an a64 3200+ with a gig of ram. im checking out version 9 at the moment.

My experience of it is not so good. You have to want to use it, or have a very good reason to need to use it.

Perhaps not so important, but to me it looks ugly as hell.

Well I wouldn't expect a SPARC proc since you downloaded the x86 binaries after all. :P It's an OS that really likes to scale up. Never used it though, like I said. I'd be interested to see your opinion of it after you've used it for a while. What kind of license did you get for it? 60 day eval?

free for development purposes.

yes the default X is pretty ugly (its called CDE) but i'm using gnome on it right now. its actually a decent, very stable os. im going to try serving with it for awhile. seems fine for desktop uses etc.
