I made this thread with the knowledge that most mods do not want signature pictures, so please don't get mad at me because I do not present this to create another quarrel, I really legitimately want to suggest a new feature that I think a lot of people would like. Also, I searched several times (using several different terms) to make an effort to ensure that this which I present has not already been presented and shot down, making sure that I am covering new ground and not repeating something someone else already suggested. There are many threads addressing similiar issues, but this is, what I think, a solution that has not yet been presented. Here is what I believe could satisfy everyone's sig pic issues:

There is a tool in the user cp options that will allow or disallow pictures (which would be a solution for those who do not want to see pics). This is that option:

Visible Post Elements
You have the option to show or hide various elements of messages, which may be of use to users on slow internet connections, or who want to remove extraneous clutter from posts.
[ ]Show Signatures
[ ]Show Avatars
[ ]Show Images (including attached images and images in code)

I believe that a solution to the problem would be to make these options on by default, since most of the mods and some people on the forums (as I have noticed) do not want sig pics. Then, if a user wants the option to see sig pics, they can manually allow them on their own. Also, bandwidth would not be a problem if images were hosted off site. Again, forgive me mods if, in my searching, I missed this if it has already been posted, but I took every effort to ensure that I wasn't reposting something old. I am just trying to suggest a feature to a common problem here at halflife2.net.

well i think this looks like a well thought up suggestion and anyone who disregards it without properly reading it should be given a slap...

oh, and i think although the idea may require a bit of work, it would keep both types of people happy; those that like sig pics and those that don't!

They're still a waste of bandwidth - I don't want to see picture sigs, but I want to see IMG tags and attached images.

I wouldn't say it's a common problem - sig pics, by and large, are horrid :)

No pics in sigs god damm't...when will you noobs understand there will never be picture sigs.

Don't like it go to another forum.

You wouldn't even have to see them by default if what I proposed was enacted. Oh, and I am not a noob. Thanks for the insult man. Real cool.

I'm inclined to agree - picture signatures are unnecessary and all they do is dirty up the forum and mess with bandwidth. Guests will not have the option to disable, and they'll see our site as a messy, high-loading time place.

I'm just against signature pictures, though your way is the best I've heard of so far.

I agree on that, it might be a simple task to arrange the

But there is an option that would take time to implement...and as badger and others have said..it still waste bandwith no matter what.

Also you're welcome.

Again, not trying to start an argument, so don't take it that way. Since nobody answered the last time I made a thread about it, what is the point of an image hosting place like imageshack if it doesn't reduce bandwidth stress? I don't see why the site would exist if hosting things on it would pose no advantage. I really want to understand.

A sizable portion of the Halflife2.net community still uses dialup = still has to load these images.

Also, when Tr0n said noob he was saying you're new to the forums, which you ARE, so it wasn't necessarily an insult. Though it probably was.

Yea didn't mean it as an insult, but most of the thread starters requesting pictures in sigs was new to the forums.

Hence "noobs".

Oh. Well, all is cool then (shakes Tr0n's hand). I need a smoothie.

but it's better not bothering, there've been several movements to enable images in signatures but it's not happening. munrowned them.

sorry that you put a lot of effort in, but no :p

What is munrowned? I couldn't even find it on urbandictionary.com.

Is everything illegal around here?
its not just here, its everywhere, its called the law. One day when you've got a career, and become an adult you'll know what its like to have things stolen from you.

I wouldn't call posting scans form a magazine stealing. I would call it advertising.

Ugh, that thing overran the internet last year.

TDE's avatar isn't his cat I don't think, since I've seen that picture around.
