Honestly how old are you? If you can't appreciate painting then maybe you shouldn't be posting stuff in the art and design column.

i'll take that as a compliment

i go to art institute, started painting about 2 years ago

it's hard work, but it still feels good

Very good stuff. Love the weird art.

You may be able to fool these people but you can't fool me. That man in the middle is a direct copy of one of Michelangelo's sketches. Don't worry though I always copy Ingres 'pencil paintings' its good to get experience from. Say, have any of your paintings sold yet? if so how much for?

all of them are michelangelo, but that's why i said "practice sketches", it's like a warm up that i do before serious work

well, i sold couple, gave couple away, but my work is not mature enough to sell for living, yet, i got about 2 more years to polish of my skill

its not bad to copy michelangels/ any great master sketches youre just learning the way they used their pencil. I dont think hes trying to fool anyone. Nice art btw can you show me a process of how you think.. ie just like the first sketch, your base, then what you put on top, how you highlight, and finished product? thzanks

i'll do that tonight, just for you, post a pic. and i'll draw it, for you

are you being sarcastic? im curious about the acrlyic medium ive only used it once and it dried to quickly for me to start any real havoc :D sorry if it seems like a "crappy" request i just want to see how you work with this medium

Well for a start his name is Michelangelo and secondly he didn't use pencil he used a special crayon, but yeh you seem to know what you're talking about

no, wasn't being sarcastic, i was just in a weired mood that time, so you wanna see the drawing process or acrylic process?

yeah, yeah, we all make spl. mistakes, anyway, the special crayon is simply red chalk, he used other mediums to draw as well

acrylic process do you use the retainer or w/e its called it starts with a R i really dont remember techniques and such. Im going to paint next year hopefully ( im going to be a sophmore ) with acrylics and knowing my teacher shello probably make us do a still life or some animals with the medium. I used it once before but like I said it took like 30 seconds for it to dry ;/. ignore eatbugs he seems like a jerk

I love the portraits, especially the first. You've got a good perception of shading and depth, but you don't overload the picture with detail; I like that :)

acrylic process is really simple, get the paint out of the tube, mix it (or not) and apply to the canvas, can be deluted with water (it's a water-based medium), if you don't like that it dryies so fast, there are varnishes (or something like that, just read the bottle for the use) that you could get extand the drying time, i say before working with color, defenetly learn color theory, but other wise, acrylic is probobly the easies of all color mediums to use

PS
remember you work in layers,

outline,
base color
shadows & highlights
ditails

all on top of eachother

when you say color theory do you mean like warm colors cool colors, hue value intensity or stuff like speculars and radiosity i hear people talking about color theory but im not sure if I already know this stuff or I dont.

Yeh, I was in a bad frame of mind, I'm sorry/
A little off topic but..I had a look at your thread Nofx and I saw that you had some things well done but others neglected like the correct proportions for the human body etc.

P.S Did you really create that sculpture of what seems like a Roman? It's fantastic for a first attempt

Color theory is a theory of how colors mix and what colors go together and what don't (you can actually make all of them go with each other), but it's the simple things like: mix red and blue to get purpule, blue and yellow you get green and so on.

Warm colors are everything for a bright shade of red to bright green, everything elese are cool colors.

make a color wheel first, it will help you to understand the colors

Yes Ive already learned about that but I found a better article which goes more in depth than what I learned.. I know how to make the colors, aslo my teacher said theres no such thing as purple ... violet :D
heres the link to the color theory article by Ron Lemens I believe.
