Some Counter-Strike: Source News…

I'm all for militia, but since I never really played any of the other maps (not much interest in them) apart from the obvious, then I don't see why VALVe should spend more time making remakes, rather than bringing out new content.

But I don't care what they'll do. Either way their maps are geared towards eye-candy over FPS (Despite higher FPS giving less recoil, and thus ruining the game for people who's systems aren't top of the range), and I won't be playing them.

Not retarded at all...

I have to agree with HiPNoTyQ, I have a hard time understanding why Valve would spend so much time and energy remaking maps that have been around for ages :dozey: instead of producing some new exciting maps :naughty: . I suppose it's easier to remake a map because there's a blueprint to go by so there's little development time spent  . However, it would be so much more fun to have brand new kick ass maps to play :E . I believe that the community would greatly appreciate some fresh maps for a change, especially when they are selling the games for money. So come on Valve, get some of your designers to lay out some nice freshies for us, we've been waiting for quite a while!

Well, theres all the people that get pissed because they just want 1.6 with better graphics.
Then theres the fact that they then know what works. They could see that militia is a well enough played map with 1.6, that it should then do well with CSS.
Also, it's then a lot easier where you don't have to completely think up a new layout.
I'm really looking forward to see how it looks. (if it's anything close to Inferno or Nuke or prodigy or Tides.... I'll be very happy.)
Also hoping that Jess Cliffe E-mails me back.

Well, we've got De_dust for one. That was one of the first maps ever (created by the original modding team). Did they remake it for every release? Hell yes. Why? Because it owns your llama.

I haven't played CSS in a LONG time but are they just "updating" player models or are they actually allowing different player models to be selected like 1.6 and prior releases? It seems quite.. uh whats the word, oh yes.. retarded. I thought the demand was for more player models to choose from.

Making statements such as this without properly checking up on your info makes you seem — ah, what's that word? Oh yeah, retarded.
They are bringing back character-model selection, a la 1.6. That's the whole point.

This will be the update that brings me back to CSS. Been waiting for new player models (more than one per team) since the game was released. And Militia Will be awesome! Cant wait!!

I wish valve had released militia first and then nuke.
Can't wait to defend Cliffs vacation house again or rush the CT's till they just give up getting out of their spawnpoint.
To bad the T's cant get the hossies in the end of the sewer anymore and camp the round out... or hossiejump on the high rock at the back of the house.
those were the times :upstare:

Valve, bring back the exploits plz :D

Hi, first of all I'm new and this is my first post. I've been reading these forums for about half a year now and I finally registered so I can post.

Right, on to the my contribution to this thread.

I bought Half Life 2. Great game, got an even better game with it called Counter Strike: Source and even got a free HL2 DM game and a whole new HL2 level in HDR to play free of charge. I get fantastic regular updates that patch and improve these games, in terms of playability, balance and performance. To add to that I'll get to play numerous modifications in the future free of charge. Now I was not promised any of these when I bought HL2 so I'm thankful, happy and very impressed with Valve's attitude to it's customer base. Yes they advertise games which I can also buy but I don't have to, they're not forcing me to.

Now, on CS:S in particular, I've been getting constant updates with new maps and player models. Again, this is free. I recently got to play a fantastic new map in HDR. I've not played CS before and there are a lot of people out there that haven't. So for me to get these re-made maps is no problem. Either way I'm not going to whine about getting things for free!

I'm not a Valve fan boy but I use to play the Battlefield, Quake and Unreal Tournament games. EA are scum, Activision leave a lot to be desired and Epic even though are good they still don't match Valve.

I'm very happy to hear about the new player models and maps. Also judging by Valve's track record I expect more new content for months if not years to come.:)

how come incomming source media is no longer posted on this site? last time it was very popular

Cobra, I didn't pay for hl2, css, cs, hl2dm, the lost coast, hl, i did buy blueshift and oposing force 2 or more years ago for 10 dollars, but the rest came with my video card. and I can't stand the constant updates, cause i just play 56k, Ive tried to download lost coast for over a month now and all it does is download, ill leave it on all night, come back the next day with an error message.

but its free, I reakon I shouldn't bitch. The thing is I just wish I could hit one button, be able to play something, never have it connect to the internet or load ever again. and i wish it would load without having to have another program loaded in the background. Oh and the ability to reinstall it without having to be on the internet with a 56k for 2 weeks updating it even though you properly completed the backup tool would also be nice.

and don't bash EA and praise Valve in the same breath. Who do you think publishes hl2?

Welcome to the forums.
and eh,EA is the distributor,Valve is a self-publishing company, as far as I know.

Thanks samo.

I wrote EA because they now own most of, if not all of DICE, the makers of the Battlefield games. The Battlefield games were never the best in terms of support, but since EA took over it's got even worse. I also wrote EA because these guys will never give anything for free. They'd make you pay for a patch if they could, they wanted to bring their version of XBOX Live so they could even charge for online play. It's why downloadable free Battlefield 2 content is null and why the patches come so rarely. You're right, they're a publisher but they also own some developers and even have in-house developing studios.

Valve are a breath of fresh air.:D

No major arguement here except on the Epic bit :p
Epic did a goddamn amazing job supporting the mod-community in 2k4, and they constantly released map-packs etc. (whether they made them themslelves or publicly released contest-winning packs), and released a whole expansion for free (that extension thing. can't recall the name) for all who already owned the game.

In my eyes, Epic is one of the few game devs that rival Valve :)

Come on mate, I said Epic are good, but they don't match Valve. In my opinion Epic may rival Valve but Steam, Source, the biggest modding community and the most popular FPS online game belong to Valve.;)

EDIT polyguns I feel for you mate, 56K is horrible. EA are like a cancer that just won't stop spreading and when I heard they'll be publishing Valve's future games I was quite upset. Still all of the free content comes through Valve and Steam so there's hope it won't end up like DICE. (The fiasco where EA practically destroyed Desert Combat in order to remove competition to their soon-to-be-released Battlefield 2 was disgusting. They promised the Trauma developers job security and their own DICE studio in NY, I think, in order for them to stop working on Desert Combat. Then dissbanded them 3 months after BF2's release. Off-topic, my apologies.)

Dude...
MILITIA!!!

The one thing I would ask for, although I'm pretty damn sure it won't be included, would be cameras in the sewers. I Emailed Jess Cliffe before Assault was released asking if Assault would have them, and got a Email back 20 minutes later saying there wouldn't be any.. I'm sure it will be the same with Militia... But I'm sure it will be a great map.
Please let us know what they say... I for one really want those cameras (didn't actually use them much on militia but great fun on assault).

valve is really only remaking the maps that made cs the popular game it is.

prodigy, assault, nuke, train, inferno
all of these maps were popular when CS was growing from 1.0-1.6 stages, and most even beforehand.
I'm surprised they haven't made militia by now considering it was the 2nd most popular cs map (next to assault) for a long time... i'm also surprized they haven't remade mansion (or estate for the new people..) yet.

As of their new maps... they are ok i guess, the only remake I dont like is the one of that CZ map, tides. Never really liked it on CZ dont like it on CS: S but the rest of the remakes are great imo

I do think that to advance, we need some new maps in the releases as well, but good ones! I remember back when Aztec first came out in cs version 6 (or somewhere around there) and everyone was blown away, who knows, some new maps may become the next aztec, nuke, train, or even dust.
