So I'm bored and want to play a game.

I don't care how the pace is in the game, as long as it's always fun. I want it to be long, and for the PC, but not a really new game.. My PC sort of sucks.

Any suggestions? Please?!

Lots of games on kongregate, it rocks. :p

Like just how bad does your PC suck? Whats the basic specs? My PC isn't the greatest either but I can play the following just fine & very much enjoy them. Some are longer than others.

1) RaceCar GRID

2) Mass Effect
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/masseffect/index.html

3) Devil May Cry 4

4) PSI-Ops (Now Free)

5) Sins Of a Solar Empire

6) Titan Quest + Immortal Throne Expansion

7) Loki

8) Assassins Creed

10) Elder Scrolls: Oblivion

Make sure you install OOO 1.33 or Martigens + Franciscos + Midas Magic. Otherwise vanilla Oblivion sucks imho.

To name a few...

Geforece FX 5600
1GB RAM
Pentium 4 2.6GHz

Yea, really bad.

I had a 5600. Literally melted because the fan came dead but didn't notice for months.

I've had mine since 2001 :|

Or maybe 2002.. I can't remember.

Download Aliens Versus Predator (the original) and LAN it up.

The game I suggested is very good for Dog, hopefully it runs on XP.
Really, most awesome adventure game EVER.

#'s 4,6,7 & 9 should run more or less fine. What type of games do you enjoy? RPG? FPS? RTS? I can name many more that will run on your system smoothly, if I know the genre you enjoy. Also are we talking Free games or are you willing to buy? Steam has a nice selection of games that will run on your hardware. Let me know.

Download Psi-Ops.

Good advice there. A fun & FREE full length game.

An EXCELLENT idea. The original AVP is one of my all time favorite games. There was just something about it. The Scrimage mode I think it was called, pretty much put you solo or with a friend against endless aliens on a selection of maps. The point was to prtty much try to stay alive for as long as possible. AVP 2 & the expansion are also fun & will run just fine on your hardware, but sadly, don't play them if you are looking for a good scare as AVP 2 leaned too much on the graphics engine to put out what I feel to be... "cartoonish" graphics. I found the MP of AVP 2 to be fun for around 10 mins, but with the original AVP, I played it online for.. well years.

I have and have beaten AVP2 + expansion, I've never even thought of AVP 1.

As for my preferred games, I tend to like playing open world type FPS's. Far Cry during the day levels was awesome for me, Half-life 2 Water Hazard was cool, because it was relatively open world.

I'd LIKE to play Crysis, looks very very fun to me, but my PC can't even begin to think about even starting to handle the lowest settings of it..

I dunno, I have about $200 in my bank.. Would I be able to up my PC to play Crysis for atleast med/high graphics?

I used to be a big PC gamer, but that was when my parents bought this thing in 2000-2002 (can't remember when, it was between those years though), and it was top of the line, so I could play anything. I've slid from PC gamer to Console gamer (own a Wii and 360 now), but I'd REALLY like to get back to PC, as most of the time PC is hella cooler.

Bad news:

$200 won't come anywhere close to what you need to run Crysis at Med / High. If it were, there wouldn't be so many people bitching at it's requirement ;) Realistically, you probably need around triple that amount to run the game on Medium settings and quadruple that if you want to run it on high / near max. That is, your system needs a complete overhaul if you want to have any chance of running it at even medium. Motherboard, CPU, Ram, Graphics cards, etc. will all need to be upgraded. An incremental upgrade with just $200 won't don't anything for you.

Not so bad news:

Since you already own a 360, it would be pretty much redundant to own a mid-spec pc. The 360 and PC already share a multitude of releases and the 360 already runs those games at upper-mid settings. If you really want to get back to PC gaming, I'd advise you to save up and get a setup that helps future proof yourself to an extent. Assuming you shop smart, you can do that for around $1,000 (depending on what you can salvage) and still leave yourself room for future upgrades. This will probably ensure you'll be running games at high / max settings for the considerable future.

Grand Theft Auto 3 / Vice City / San Andreas.
Star Wars Jedi Outcast / Academy.
Diablo 2 + LoD.
Operation Flashpoint + Resistance(Mission editor can provide anybody with hours of entertainment.)

Try the Crysis demo. I played it on lower settings very smoothly on a P4 3ghz, 1gb, x800xl.

You should buy Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45. Only $20 on Steam and uses the UT2004 engine, so it should run smoothly.

Thief: Deadly Shadows ran well on my P4 2.6ghz, 512mb, Radeon 9600 laptop, even though it has fully dynamic shadows/lighting.

What is Thief like? I really noticed it cause the main character has the same name as me.

I reckon Beyond Good & Evil would be doable on your system. Direct2Drive has it on sale, so you don't even need to leave your seat. It's a helluva game if you've never given it a go, quite a meaty adventure too.

Max Payne 1 and 2 are still great games. Playing casually through part 2 atm and i am having a blast. It's such a good example of what Yathzee calls gunwank.

Ground Control.

Awesome RTT, and you can get it legally for free these days from fileplanet.

I'm sort of in the same boat with a 2.8 mhz 1 gig ram, radeon 9700 pc, then got a 360 due to the lull in solid PC exclusive titles.

So here's what i've been playing

Oblivion
Diablo II
Counter-Strike Source
Portal
Aliens Vs Predator
Close Combat
Madden
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time / Warrior Within
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow Of Chernobyl
American McGee's Alice
Hitman Blood Money
Freelancer
Baldur's Gate
Dream Fall
Max Payne / Max Payne 2
Sims 2
Starcraft / Brood War
Unreal 2
Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines
Thief
Freedom Force
The Movies
Deus Ex / DE : Invisible War (play 1st if choosing)
Call of Duty 2
X-Come Collector's Edition
Worms Armageddon/ World Party

Oblivion - Played it (owned it), but Morrowind + Expansions are far superior in every way imaginable, plus mods, it's no contest, but Morrowind got boring, I'll have to go back to it in a while, then it'll be fresh again to me (I always do this), I actually sold Oblivion back to EB Games for more then I bought it.

Diablo II - Have it plus expansion, which I still play alot of the time, but it's gotten a tad boring.

Counter-Strike Source - Have it, but it's gotten repetitive, so I don't play it much anymore.

Portal - Not much replayability in it, plus it's short. Doesn't help that I already beat it atleast 15 times already.

Aliens Vs Predator - Got the second one plus expansion, beat them a long ass time ago, never tried the first one, though. Looks too doom-like, and I'm not really in the mood for doom style.

Close Combat - Looks interesting, maybe I'll try it.

Madden - HATE SPORTS VIDEO GAMES.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time / Warrior Within - Kind of boring, I beat the first, and the second was too boring..

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow Of Chernobyl - Hmm.. Depending on if my system can handle it, I may give it a go, looks fun. (says it requires all I got but instead of a 5600 it needs atleast a 7800, although my card has come through in the past, things a little beast, tbh).

American McGee's Alice - Doesn't look like my type of game.

Hitman Blood Money - Own it for 360, good game.

Freelancer
- Eh, look too old, not that I don't like old games (they are actually better then new games), but I feel like playing a relatively new game.

Baldur's Gate - Diablo style rpg's are out for the moment for me.

Dream Fall - Own it.

Max Payne / Max Payne 2 - Played and beat them both, pretty good.

Sims 2 - Own it, got boring, played it too much (it gets addicting)

Starcraft / Brood War - Own them, same comment as Sims 2.

Unreal 2 - Not a big fan of the unreal games.

Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines - I actually just.. Umm.. 'got' this game, still playing through. Just got downtown.

Thief - Currently 'getting' Thief 3.

Freedom Force
- neh

The Movies
- I also recently 'got' this game, takes too much time, I mean, I want to play a game, but I don't feel like spending hours and hours making my own movie. (and lets face it, that's really the only fun of this game.. Managing your own studio is boring).

Deus Ex / DE : Invisible War (play 1st if choosing) - Own them both, beat them both. DX1 is awesome. DX2 is good, but it's runs like garbage on my system (must be badly optimized).

Call of Duty 2 - WW2 shooter.. not.

X-Come Collector's Edition - What? Why?

Worms Armageddon/ World Party - Own World Party, good game.

So I'm going to check out Close Combat and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Thanks for the suggestions, though.

lol, I actually looked at videos and researched every game you listed that I never played.

the curse of moneky island!

I just beated it was awsome but hard

I recomend it cuz there is very few games whit its style even nowadays

Grand Theft Auto 3 / Vice City / San Andreas.
Star Wars Jedi Outcast / Academy.
Operation Flashpoint + Resistance(Mission editor can provide anybody with hours of entertainment.)

Those are all excellent ideas as well that should run smooth with the tech that Dog has. OFP+Expansions+Editor are simply fantastic. I spent months & months & months making "movies" with the editors camera's & the locations you could place them, not to mention all the other goodies.

I know you said Diablo type games are out, but IF you change your mind, Loki, Sacred + Expansion & Dungeon Siege 1 & 2 are alot of fun.

How about Serious Sam 1, 1.5 & 2? All are very fun FPS.

How about NOLF 1 & 2? (No One Lives Forever)

How About F.E.A.R?

Stalker is an excellent RPG/FPS hybrid thats very fun. More so if you install any number of the excellent mods out. Though with your video card, you'll be forced to run the game with Static lighting if you want playable FPS, as Dynamic Lighting = Death for anything less than a 6800 Ultra video card. though some mods tweak the Dynamic Lighting so lesser hardware don't struggle as hard. Read through an old post of mine here in the HL2 forums called "STALKER STORIES" that I started some time ago. A bunch of good info for you to read through.

Freelancer is a very fun & Long Space Combat Sim.

DarkStar One is another Good Space Combat Sim game.

Just to name a few more.

I loved freelancer, but its very old and is not quite compatible with my system. I can't seem to get past the purple nebula mission without it crashing.

*Edit Button Does Not Work ATM On My End*

A few more fun Western themed & Open world games to try:

1) Call of Juarez
2) GUN
3) Boiling Point
4) Rainbow 6 series
5) Jaws Unleashed
6) Men Of Valor
7) Painkiller
8) Call of Duty Series
9) Medal Of Honor Series
10) Vietcong + expansions

Look back through the games section here & read a few of the reviews members here have posted. I have submitted quite a few myself.

Boiling Point is horrible. D:
3 hour long load times, excessive clipping, characters not talking when they're supposed to, missions being unable to be completed because of said character not acknowledging my return, clunky weapons, clunky vehicles... really the list could go on.
I highly doubt the patches made a difference to it but I could be wrong.

A great idea. You might meet a nice young lady like this...

I hate gamer girls. They all think they're better than guys.
Plus, that's obviously a set-up or a trap, no girls play games in the first place.

She just got her character shot in the back because she couldnt figure out how to walk around the wall.

Also, I just downloaded and played Psi-Ops and it sucks. Screw you guys!

Baldur's Gate 2

I've been playing it for a week now, best RPG ever
