I've made a 3D model for natural selection. But I need some help. I know these are the half life 2 forums, but I know you guys can help me out. I need to know what to do with a model in 3DSMAX after i've modeled it. I need it so I can skin it and animate it. If anyone can tell me how to make it skinnable, please do. This is my first model by the way.

If this is your first model ever and you dont know the concept of skinning, unwrapping or even just uv mapping then you shouldnt be making mod models just yet. The model is pretty nice for a first but doesnt meat any regular mod standard out there.

I suggest you go to a computer store and get the 3D Studio Max Bible for your version. It is packed with information and tutorials to learn the whole program. Every max user should have a copy of this book.

Just give you an answere, you need to unwrap the model. You take the models polygons and flatten them out so you can draw on them. To explain how this is done, well as I said get the book.

It's not for a mod really, not for a new mod anyway. It's for natural selection, a mod that has been out for years. It's just a replacement model that i'm doing for a friend. If you don't know, natural selection is a HALF LIFE 1 mod, so the model is pretty limited.

ChrisArt - why wouldn't it meat the requirements for HL1? It looks pretty low poly.

To make it skinnable you have to unwrap it. Try getting information on UV Mapping and unwrapping.

the model is only 1.5k poly's maybe lower then that. So i could put it in-game. I can even do more optimizing to make the poly count lower.

I never said it couldnt meet requierments, I said standards. If its just a replacement model he wants to use then by all means if it works it works. I was under the influence that he was working for "the" mod. Either way, didnt mean to talk down on you for a first model its pretty good.
