Here are a couple of WIP shots from an HS map that I am working on. This map is roughly based on the Asbury Park boardwalk in New Jersey.

nice job, i really dig it so far.

in the reallife pic i notice theres sand on part of the boardwalk, do you plan on making a little displacement mapped sand on yours? would be kinda cool.

or what would really look great is making a blend texture of sand and a wood, then alpha layering it on parts of the boardwalk.

anyway, just rambling, its lookin good.

Those are some good ideas. I'll probably throw in some of that super detail once I get more of the buildings constructed.

lol, thats fantastic, thats real close .. nice job :) look forward to seeing it finished.

Looking really good so far - great job with the visuals.

Can you go into (m)any of the buildings? Just that if you can't (the windows look solid even on the little hut), at the moment it seems like gameplay will be on a flat level in a very open expanse? Bear in mind this is being very nit-picky and is only based on two pictures. :)

You will be able to go into some buildings. The map will be setup to handle multiple missions like capturing an arms dealer, stealing a briefcase, whacking another gang member.

Holy crap! I didn't even notice that the last shot was a real photo until I read the following post!

Awesome awesome job dude.

Do you live around asbury park? I'm representin' Jersey City. A lot of great upban decay around Jersey for inspiration.

Great work. I look forward to playing it.

/edit: I just showed the screenshot to my girlfriend and asked if she recognized it. She immediately knew what it was.

Hey looks really good. I've got a question for you (yea i'm a mapping newbie), on the "deck" part of it, i see 3 distinct styles of wood. One diagonal, the other diagonal but opposite way, and lastly some 2x4's by each other. How did you do that? Did you make a brush for each texture, is the entire desk one big texture, or did you add those textures to one big brush separately in Hammer?

pur3r4ge: I actually live in Texas. I saw this boardwalk on The Sopranos and I knew I had to put it in the mod.

wastingtape: yes, each direction of wood plank is a different brush
