Borrowed from NTSC-uk and American OXM:

-Animations have been completely redone, they're now motion captured.

-There's a mini game when you reload your weapon. If you press the reload button right when your ammo runs out, you'll do a quick reload and your first few shots will have extra damage. If you don't press the reload button in time, your weapon will jam briefly, before you are ready to fire again. This mini game will be in multiplayer as well.

-Heavy emphasis on cover. Your allies and enemies are very aware of the cover available. Taking cover behind things like sofas and other fragile objects will provide you temporary cover, but eventually the fragile objects will get torn up with bullets, and you'll be vulnerable to fire again. So you are better off taking cover behind less fragile cover.

-From beginning to end, you will be with at least one squadmate-Dom, but sometimes you will have as many as 4 squadmates, and sometimes you will have to split from everyone during the course of the level and go on by yourself.

-Simple cover controls. A button will be used for duck n run, taking cover, roll, and do a SWAT-like turn from one piece of cover to the next.

-Squad controls that allow you to tell your teammates where to go and what to do (attack, defend, ceasefire, etc.). This will also be used to some extent in the versus multiplayer mode, and allow you to highlight target areas.

-Online co-op lets online buddies play the role of Dom and your other squadmates. Doesn't give an exact number, but I expect there to be online co-op for up to 4 players.

-Epic won't answer any questions about the online Versus mode and other multiplay details.

-You can revive your squadmates with a stint shot, but you also risk your life by doing so

-Voice commands to AI teammates is not confirmed, but OXM thinks it is likely.

-Four weapons revealed:

Hammer of Dawn- you target paint an area, and an orbital laser platform unleashes a devestating blast that devestates huge groups of enemies.

Torquebow: Crossbow-style weapon that you shoot into enemies (how long you hold down the fire button, the further it travels). Once the bow is in the enemy again, you can press Fire again to detonate the bow and blow up your enemy.

-Lancer Rifle- Rifle that has a chainsaw attachment

-Bolo Grenade- sticky grenade

I can't wait for co-op :)

Sounds cool. Though i'm going to wait a while once it's released to see if a PC version may be released.

Co-op appeals to me most. We need more co-op in games!

DO NOT LIKE

I keep confusing this game with Faces of War ..reread your first post but think of ww2 and it sounds like an awesome ww2 game ...but then you had to ruin it with talk of orbital lasers and crossbows ...pretty sure there wasnt any crossbows during ww2

but this does sound good

I agree. Although in most games I never let my ammo run out anyway. I just reload after a brief conflict.

I like the weapon reload too... I usually reload just before a clips ends anyway if I get the chance.

Nothing really sounds interesting about this game. And that reloading mini game sounds pretty stupid. Why would your first few shots do extra damage if you reload sooner? And why would your gun jam if you reload later? Doesn't make any sense.

Luckily it's a video game, and doesn't have to make sense ;)

My most played game of this generation involves monkeys stuck inside large tranparent balls who I make roll about by tilting the world.

I'm looking forward to Gears of War because it looks gorgeous and supports online co-op. Anything else is gravy.

And huge monsters with stupidly huge guns attached to their backs make sense? :p

Sounds good. This is my most wanted 360 game as of now.

too bad they arent making a pc version, but i still love this game, because its so awesome

is this x360 and ps3 now, or just x360 ?

i hope it comes out damn soon; is there a release date yet ?!

Just 360 (for now).

I guess the new info sounds good, but I have lost much of my interest for this title in the relative media drought that its had for the past few months. Some new vids or something might get me excited again...oh, and a price drop for the 360 as well. :E

I'm pretty sure it will come out on the pc, but after the 360 version.

can I borrow your 360 till the pc version comes out?

I really like the weapon reloading idea.
I dunno--calling the pressing of a button a mini-game is a bit insane to me, as is implementing it so that you are right in the thick of things and you have to time your button pressing correctly in order to reload?? That's going to be lots of fun in MP... [/sarcasm]

I don't like the weapon reload mini-game. Unless it's togglable I can't see it happening.

It hardly qualifies as a mini game - a poor choice of words. It's more like the super starts in Mario Kart. You either time it right and get a boost, or you don't and you stall.

I imagine timing your reload perfectly and killing a bad guy who otherwise would have torn you too pieces had you not, being quite satisfying. It doesn't sound too taxing either (i'm assuming you just have to push reload the split second you run out of ammo), more a nice addition to make the gameplay a little more interesting.

I love the way you explain things Warbie. Perfect. Now I don't have to explain that part.

If you don't time it correctly, I'm sure it still reloads and a decent speed, just not quite as fast, thats all, and is part of the technique of the game.

I think it's also a measure to encourage people to run the clip dry .. When I play FPS, I always reload in the middle of the clip and such, sometimes I reload if I've only fired 1 bullet! Thats pretty dumb to constantly be reloading even when the clip is almost full, but it is effective. With this gameplay "minigame" as they are calling it, I think it fixes that and rewards skill and taking risks.

I think it will make for some kick ass gameplay, especially diving for cover and reloading your weapon - timing it perfectly, then jump out and punish them with a slight damage bonus if you can manage to hit them with the first couple shots. The first few shots are always the hardest. Most people miss the first few shots because they are finding their target and using the bullets as tracers. I think it rewards skill. I love it, and is the main reason this game sounds interesting IMO.

I do the same thing :) - it just doesn't feel safe going into battle without a full magasine.

I've often wondered what a game that encouraged the player to empty their clip would play like. If you lost the bullets you had left when reloading it'd make things that little bit more involved and tense. Gears of War doesn't sound to be going that far, but like you say, it does encourage taking some risks and rewards the player when it pays off. Anything that does that in a game is all good.
