Some new Heavy Rain info

Yeah, heard about a lot of this. Can't wait for this one. A nice mature enthralling graphic adventure with unique controls and a fine story full of twists and turns. Can't wait to see what they show/announce at E3!! Oh, and new screenshots look gorgeous too:

looks nice, can't wait till i get my PS3 back from repairs...and this game comes out, when is that btw??

Shame it's a PS3 exclusive, it looks really great, and I really loved Indigo Prophecy.

Hope they don't ruin this the same way they ruined that, by going all Matrix on us towards the end.

Heavy Rain was described to me as an adventure based on three main elements: Investigation, Conversation, Quick Time Events. What does it mean? It means that there won’t be active shootings/fightings

This game will suck all the dicks, leaning too hard on the graphics

Can not wait for this :D

Shame that is now being released for 2010 :(

I will buy a PS3 for this.

I'm serious.

It's a pretty game, a very interesting game, but I just can't see myself parting with 40 quid for it. Maybe some new information will sway me but for now it'll be something to have a look at once the price goes down.

God, Omikron 2 is going to be on this engine.
That news, however, is far more exciting.

I'd be more excited if I didn't believe the lead writer and designer to be a pretentious moron.

Same as Samon, much of the things they claim, are the same things they claimed for Indigo Prophecy, like their claim back then of no game overs, story adapting to player.

Their ideas of this in Indigo Prophecy, was that if the player got a game over, they'd simply give the player a shitty lil monologue about what happened after game over.

Hmm, not much new information there, but the characters actually sound very interesting. Like one of the comments on the page says, I want to lose all 4 of the characters as quickly as possible just to see what happens.

Not sure what to make of this game. It looks like it has really good gameplay, characters, story and choices matter and generally looks like a good game form what I read so far. Considering getting it but there are a few warning lights. It says you could have over 12 hours I am presuming thats if you make most of the right choices so I am quite concerned about the length of a single play through. I like a long game. Also heavy on quick-time events. :x:x:x:x:x

I would not worry about either. Even if one path through the game is 12 hours, another could easily be 15 or 18, depending on how you play it and how much you interact with. Every playthrough will be different in terms of just about everything, including length.

I also would not worry about the so-called "QTEs" that many folks seem worried about. These are not your typical, "Press X as fast a you can to rip out the cyclops' eye!" They are thoroughly organic and are much more naturally integrated into the gameplay. Rolling down a window might be swirling the left analog stick just as looking right with the stick and pressing x and pulling on the stick might open the glove compartment (or something, these are not specific examples).

Movement is also very different than in most games, but again, it is much more immersive when a stick controls which way your character's head is looking and a shoulder button controls acceleration. Very innovative for this type of game.

I think when it all comes down to it, other devs will be very interested in learning from what Heavy Rain has done for videogaming. (I hope at least. :))

You just described Indigo Prophecy, VictimOfScience. So not sure how you can call Heavy Rain innovative, especially since it's from the same dev.

Ironically, they make the exact same promises for Heavy Rain as they did for Indigop Prophecy, no game-over, story that shapes around the player, rather than the other way around, bla bla bla.

I was thoroughly hyped for Indigo Prophecy and was very dissappointed when I played the final product, not gonna make the same mistake again.

I think I only mentioned actual innovation in terms of the character controls, but you are right that the idea here is very similar to much of what was either included in Fahrenheit or promised and then dropped. However, it is because of this and the fact that they are focusing on getting the most out of only 1 hardware platform that gives me a lot more confidence this time around. Without having to worry about a bunch of different engines across a bunch of different hardware platforms, these guys can actually focus on story and immersion and gameplay and graphics and all of the things that devs should be focused on without being encumbered by additional platform/engine equality/performance concerns.

Believe me, I don't want to get my hopes up too high only to get burned again either, but everything I have seen and heard thus far leads me to believe that this dev has learned a lot from Fahrenheit and is looking to avoid as many of those missteps as possible this time around. Time will tell though.

Amazing? Are tripping. The detective just asked the guy in the store about stuff to do with helping him track down his sons killer and the storekeeper didn't even react....

He's a terrorist anyways they don't have feelings.

heh obviously samon isn't smart enough to understand the genius about the internet trying to take over the world :smug:

Most disappointing of all, though, is the voice acting.

How is it possible that the casting found an actor worse than the one used for Indigo Prophecy?
Uh-oh. I was with these previews until that.

I hear ya... The joystiq previewer definitely seemed less gung ho than the others. I've never really played a game and got upset with voice actors before. It seems like that's a pretty important part of a game like this though. Oh well I guess I'll know for sure when it finally gets released, I hope I can live with it.

Am I looking at the same game... concept wise it sounds interesting but graphically it looks pretty bad. Lip syncing and animation where awful, frame rate looked terrible, UI was clipping through the character, characters look pretty amateurish.

Maybe I'm missing something.
