Some new Heavy Rain info

I thought Fahrenheit was alright. So I guess I'll have no problem with Heavy rain...

Ok. Just beat it. Does anyone know how the New Game now works? I don't think you can just go back and play any chapter and get all the outcomes for it because so many are dependent on what has happened in previous chapters. If anyone has any ideas about this, let me know.

Here is how my story turned out:

Jayden got killed in the fight with Mad Jack sadly and then he shows up again in the ending with the detective?? Ethan and Madison got together after I saved the son. I don't know how I feel about Scott Shelby being the killer. Is that who it is every time? It would be great to see it be different people in different playthroughs.

Man, there is so much I want to go back and do differently now. Guess I will do that. :E

Im choosing between this and AVP. Anyone who got both? I know their different games and all, but on one hand, I have this cinimatic experience, and the other, impale people with spears...

He.. died in the Mad Jack fight, but returned? That's weird. I did well, and he survived. He should not have returned, I'll have to do some testing. Yes, Shelby is the killer every time. Ridiculous. He somehow never thought 'man I better not let anyone find out I'm the murderer', and in his PRIVATE THOUGHTS he acted surprised at evidence. NO
SENSE.

Rizzo, it really depends. I didn't care for AVP3's demo, so I didn't even bother picking it up. If you liked it and really want it, I would go for AVP3 first and get HR when the price drops.

tbh at least there were no supernatural aspects.

That's a step in the right direction.

choose bad company 2 man, this game will probably be $30 in 2 months used, or you can just rent it for lets says $10 and be done with it. also how many of these type of games are you going to pick up and play years down the road when theres so many to chose over that you missed.

imo, play as many games as you can that got high ratings and you'll be much happier. on the other hand though i can see how people want to replay a game over and over again. its kinda like when your a kid and you watch the same movie and over and over again and when you get older and watch that movie again, its not as good and you ask yourself why did i waste so much time on one freakin movie?? Jurassic park for instance, i've seen close to 12 times. i tried to watch it again and i can't.

sorry for the long winded response but i bet bad company will give a better run for your money

I can watch Top Gun ad infinitum, shut your mouth.

MAVERIIIICK

That was a ****ing terrible twist.

Big ****ing plot hole and a contradiction as well as a time paradox.

Overall, pretty sweet game. I believe I missed a few clues, because I had to give up on Jayden's investigation near the end.

Yeah,

at first I thought when the FBI agent investigated near the railroad tracks, I thought it couldn't be, That will be a meh twist. Besides some of the scenes like Manfred's don't add up. Overall though, a very good game. Though I think I heavily suspected one character and it turned out to be true.

So when the twist came on, I was like. Hey I knew all along it was you.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED IF YOU CLICK THIS.

Just beat the game, failed to save shaun. :(. Ethan killed himself on Shaun's grave. Poor ****ing sod. Jayden went back on the tripto and died too. Poor ****ing sod. Gonna give it a few days before I come back through the game to get a less depressing ending. At least Lauren Winters for great justice.

I got one of the best endings. Saved Shaun, fought off Shelby and killed him as Jayden, Lauren spat on Shelby's grave, Ethan and Shaun have a happy ending with a new life, the chick who's name I always forget wrote her book 'Heavy Rain', Jayden continued work for the FBI and I got the 'tank' ending(I have no idea what the hell happened, they left it ambiguous). Overall, it was a happy ending.

Mine was better :p. Saved Shaun, killed Shelby with Jayden, Ethan Shaun and Madison all moved into a new apartment to live happily ever after, Lauren spit on Shelby's grave, and Jayden kicked his drug habit and got on a tv show or something. What do you mean by the 'Tank' ending though? Was that a trophy or something?

Will play it again sometime in the near future to see how much I can mess things up by having everyone be bumbling idiots.

Also,
Did anyone successfully clean up all their fingerprints in Manfred's shop? I was pretty sure I got everything. The wine glasses, bathroom, window, phone... oh wait a minute. THE OTHER PHONE. ****

Also, about the killer
It didnt annoy me as much as it seems to have annoyed everyone else, but I agree that it was kind of stupid to make it a character you play when you're supposed to be able to hear everyone's thoughts. Its still 200 million percent better than the Indigo Prophecy twist/ending.

And Warped, don't you ever insult Jurassic Park again. I still watch that at least twice a year and every time its just as good as the first time.

No, it's an ending where Jayden is sitting at his desk and working on ARI, and then suddenly a couple tanks from one of the built-in minigames show up and surround him. He takes off the glasses, but they're still there, despite the fact that they should be gone.

This implies that he finally OD'd and went crazy from the drug(which may or may not be mandatory for using ARI, it may be a sort of side-drug to use that incredibly high-tech system. He might be becoming dependent upon it, however, descending into a normal addiction to the drug), thus 'killing him'. It didn't say for sure, though.

I just finished it last night and I enjoyed it alot. Does seem to be hard to compare it to fahrenheit IMO cos heay rain is more movie like (but then again I think nostalgia is getting in my way for judging fahrenheit as I've said before I loved that game).

Although given how movie like it was whenever the pacing slowed down at all it felt generally mundane e.g. collecting evidence, walkin around stuff like that. And yea everyone has mentioned it but the controls for walking around are bloody horrendous. Given the cinematic nature of the game I almost felt like the whole game could have been on-rails but the game deviated given the choices made or how successful you were at QTEs.

My ending was:

Everyone lived, shelby died, ethan/shaun/madison move in together and jayden resigned from the FBI (cos I never got him to figure out the clues for the origami killer). I tried it again with him getting all the clues and then got the tank ending for him second time round.

Couple of problems I have got though:

Everybody online has kept talking about jayden's addiction to ARI throughout the game when is this ever really shown explicitly though apart from the eye bleeding bit. I got to that and never understood what was going on until I read about the ARI thing.

Second thing was yes like everybody mentioned shelby being the killer. I had no problems with him being the killer and he certainly had the motivation but the whole thing makes no sense when you listen to the thoughts in his head. No sense at all.

Last thing; some people have caught some plotholes with this game that do seem to have some merit like when ethan had blackouts why did he wake up at carnaby road where the accident happened when he didn't know about it? Why was he having visions of drowning bodies? Why did he have an origami figure in his hand after each blackout? When madison found out about shelby why was she visibly shocked considering she hadn't met him before? Why did madison know to call jayden when she hadn't met him either?

PS seeing all endings will take SO long that idk if I want to bother :|

I've only played it through once, it was an enjoyable first romp but I dunno, I fail to find the motivation to play it through again since most actual gameplay sequences remain unchanged, only thing that becomes truly different is the end 'cutscenes'.

Oh, yeah I got the tanks too, but it also showed him kicking the addiction and tossing the bottle.

Great game, but I had the same issues/questions as you. Still really enjoyed it though.

Now ... if the writers from Rockstar North could make a game like this that'd be amazing. Really, I just hope this "genre" picks up and we get lots of diversity from lots of styles/artists. I hope this is the turning point where video games actually have sensible story arcs as opposed to a series of shooting galleries separated by cutscenes. GTAIV I think is partially to credit for getting the ball rolling in that direction with a mainstream game, and Heavy Rain really capitalizes on the concept.

Fahrenheit didn't do crap for the interactive movie genre, so I don't think this will do too better.

Yeah, but Fahrenheit was ****ing silly. This is a far more high profile release with more mainstream subject matter.

That being said, this is a pretty funny/true article. I think that goes to show how much I like this style of game ... even if it's batshit insane and nonsensical like Fahrenheit or has some pretty big flaws like Heavy Rain, it's still really ****ing good. There's so much potential in this model.

I'm not bashing the game, I loved the hell out of it, but this is true nonetheless:

I don't agree completely, unless all your characters lived in your first playthrough, otherwise you missed whole scenes if characters died. Thats what happened for me when
Mad Jack killed Jayden during my first playthrough and I missed out on some serious awesomeness later like the scene after Paco gets shot and Jayden fights with the Origami Killer in the club's back office with the fishtank.

I have gotten almost all of the endings so far. I still need to
not save Shaun and get the 'perfect' ending for Shelby by letting basically everyone in the game die lol.

Also,
what's the deal with that doctor?? How awesome was that whole scene?? Not drinking the drink he gives you and exploring his house, or drinking it and ending up in the basement anyway...awesome.
This might be the best game I have ever played in terms of ratcheting up the tension by leaps and bounds. There was one scene in particular that ended and I could not believe the adrenaline rush that I was on and coming down from. Really spectacular.

More questions:
1. What is the deal with 'Vincent' getting his book signed for Madison's ending when he says she needs a more ferocious adversary? Who is he? Should I know him?

2. What is with Blake seeing Jayden in the ARI glasses at the end of that sequence if Jayden died?

Jesus christ... I can't play it. PSN is down and won't let me install it without Trophy registration.

[ltos of spoiler tags]

For the Doctor thing,

I didn't drink it and explored the house, and then got knocked upside the head with a bat and ended up in the basement(which I did a DARING ESCAPE which had me on the edge of my seat the entire ****ing time.

Gotta try that when I get home. The shower scene alone was enough to motivate me to make sure I got everything I could out of this game. :naughty:

Lol, if this was for the Xbox, you'd be slamming Microsoft right now. What you would say: "Titillation for desperate and horny adolescents!! An intentional 'glitch' to sell more copies of a 'so called game'. It's not really a game since it practically plays itself!"

Past precedent would imply that this glitch has to be fixed quickly, lest the heavy balls of censorship come down hard on this game's M rating.

I was surprised they didn't do a separate NA version with it, like they did with Fahrenheit.

The doc scene was intense.
Edit:
anyone know what happens if you don't free her before he gets back? Does she get killed?

I really had no problem with Ethan and Madison getting it on later, but I thought that it whould be silly for them to get it on while his son was ****ing drowning. Sorry that I didn't find any chance of that later.

Also, that ass...

My ending was Ethan saving Shaun and moving into a new apartment with Madison, Jayden got killed by Shelby on the conveyor, and Shelby was shot in the ending by Lauren. Would have liked to see the tank ending with Jayden though, sounds awesome.

Also...

I could not find all the evidence in the last ARI scene with Jayden. I found the watch in the video, analyzed the gun, figured out it was a cop, but could not find anything else. What did I miss?

Overall I enjoyed playing through it immensely, and it had some of the most intense moments I've ever experience in a game. I do think the story could have used some refinement:
such as an explanation for Ethan's blackouts.

Haha! No way, man. I didn't give a shit about hot coffee and I ordered the EU version of Fahrenheit (PC) when it came out because I don't like censorship. Anyway, it is hard to say anything negative about this with a character model that is so wonderfully rendered!! :D

I do think the story could have used some refinement:
such as an explanation for Ethan's blackouts.

I think this could be explained because he
got hit by the car while trying to save his other son. JAAAAAAA-son! JA-son! That sort of trauma could easily mess-up his brain. Likewise, such a horrific incident could cause mental trauma which might result in all sorts of brain malfunctions. I think he was just screwed up after it and the blackouts show how much the whole incident damaged him.

Also, in terms of the love scene that people seem to have a hard time with...

you have to put yourself in his shoes. He has been under an insane amount of stress, he is divorced and likely hasn't been getting any action, here is this beautiful woman taking care of him, now she leans in and he can feel her moist, warm breath on his lips and feel her body heat close to his...well what would you do??

I whould, you know, wait. Becouse the clock is ticking. Im not saying that I think it's stupid that you have the option but I whould have preferd to follow it up later instead.

You geoanalyze the watch and the gas station tickets. Did you find the tickets? They were on the ground in Paco's room.

Apparently the DLC, The Taxidermist, is now available on the PSN for those of us with voucher codes. I can't wait to get home and try this out!!

Source.

EDIT: Also, the Heavy Rain text adventure is out. Get it here. Its AWESOME. :)

Weird, it was available on the day of release for me here in Sweden, I played it, fun but short, and I like that it actually gives you an in-game list of which endings you have and haven't gotten, so you know what to hunt for.
