Some nice Doom III Screens. *56K*

While I had my Geforce FX 5900 Ultra I tweaked the Doom III Alpha to get the maximum quality settings through the config. I took a few screenshots and I thought it might strike up a good conversation. Remember, these are not what the final version of the game will look like. Be warned, Some enemies are shown so if you dont want the game spoiled dont scroll down.

Here are some FPS readings. Remember this Alpha is not optimized for ANY card. You will probably be seeing a lot better FPS.

looks pretty nice.. i tried to play it on my amd1600 and gf2 32mb.. didnt go so well.. more of a slide show than a fps game :)
gonna buy new stuff soon tho, so ill probably get me a copy of doom3.. if it gets good reviews atleast

btw i really like the design of the monsters in doom3.. the half-mechanic kind looks real cool

I still think doom 3 looks as good as HL2 :), for the people who are gonna get in a tantrum because I said that...you can STFU because its called an opinion and everyone has one
 
Its a good thing you hear the chaingun warming up..If you didnt you would be so dead. It takes about 5 slugs (I think 10 come out a second) to kill you :eek:. The guys arm in the first picture expands to slam you from a distance, He then runs towards you and if he catches you he stomps the hell out of you.

Its the alpha, Its unoptomized and its a very early build. Expect a lot better FPS from the final product.

EDIT: On the last picture I have 4XAA and 8X Ansio, thats why Im getting low FPS.
 
yeah I know I have the alpha...sheesh :LOL:

Dont laugh, but I only managed to get 20fps:eek: , but that will change when I get my spanky new 2.0ghz CPU :D
 
It looks quite good, but its still something... wrong... I think it gives a very fake feeling. HL2 gives a nicer feel, like its something you *could* see in real life. Doom III just makes me go "Hrm? Cool, monsters to kill...". But then again, I have never liked any of the Doom games, so its no wonder :)

Just characters doesnt make the game look real. This is a common mistake by many game devs, Jedi Academy did the same. Up the character polys to make em prettier, but still keep the same dull Q3A enviroments. That last character looks awesome. The wall does not and ruin the entire shot. Maybe I'll try out the alpha, just to see how it looks in action :)
 
If your running a Nvidia card make sure you dont have the 44.03 or higher drivers if you plan on playing it. You'll Just get a gray screen when you load the alpha.
 
What's your config Northwood I'm curious, I get a cheese-ball fps rate with the following hardware: P4 @ 2.2ghz 1024 DDR and a Hercules R9800 pro, when that monster pops out of the wall I get about 20 fps and this is running the mediumquality.cfg. Can you share your video cfg file so I could see your settings?

I dont think the settings will help. The alpha was probably leaked before there was work on the ARB/ARB2 paths to make it run good on the R3x0.
Some of the Radeon results are awfull. The driver that broke it completely and limited fps to 10 no matter the setting was fun :)
 
I will admit Doom 3 is going to be a good looking game.But theres something about the graphics I don't like.It's the fact that the skin detail is to smooth.Refer to my quote in my sig.But mainly what I'm looking for in Doom 3 is the scaryness in it.I'm proablly going to have nightmares after I play. :(
 
Nice mang, I love the blood decals, when I tryed to play it, it was all orange and rusty brown, weird shit.
 
I agree with the game looking great, but also with there bieng somethig wrong about the graphics. Its the fact that everything, including people, looks like theyre made out of plastic.

The lighting looks great - the level geometry looks cool but the character models look so shiny and rendered - it's awful. That's why I'm never on-board when people try and say D3 has the best gfx engine around. It has many polygons, curves and details but that somehow doesn't stop it looking unrealistic.
But I never really liked Doom's gameplay so that's why I'm not so stoked about this game.
Gimme HL2 and DX2. And maybe Evil Genius and Contract JACK.

MP2, maybe. But like I said: "But it could just be Max Payne with nicer graphics and a less constipated Max."
(Sorry, I just love that nw909 quoted it in his sig. Arf)
Far Cry looks a'ight but too bright and vibra-colour... Doesn't excite me loads and loads. And STALKER could be very good also but I'll wait and see...
 
Ah stalker! What a beautiful game. I just wish they'd incorporate online play as a constant streaming world where the other stalkers would be human players; you could cooperate on missions for mutual gains or gun them down for artifacts and loot : )
 
I've recently been replaying DX the same way I replayed HL (plus the expansions) shortly after HL2 was announced and that's partly what's geared me up for DX2. Plus, it ought to be out this year. Oh baby.

Oh, and let's not forget all the new LucasArts games - Sam & Max 2!! Grim Fandango 2!!
Even though that's not so soon. BUt still!!

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's in the pipeline. But just not in the same way that Sam & Max 2 is most definitely well into its development and ought to be out early to mid 2004!
 
Sam&Max??? you must be kidding me? I loved that game, the cd version had brilliantly done voices that entertained my childhood for many a days : )

What about the Day of the Tentacle? any word on that?

Aw I had the CD version, but could never get the voices to work:(
But yeah Sam & Max 2 (I don't want to abbreviate it because it'd be... well you work it out) is way into development. There was an e3 trailer - short but sweet. Very amusing.
I'm not sure they're making a Day of the Tentacle 2 although that'd be so fantastic I'd barely be able to type it anyway. But I'm pretty sure I read about a GF2 and possibly a new Monkey Island game. The idea was for Lucas Arts to get over the fact that they had exclusive rights to Star Wars and that wasn't necessarily a good thing. And wake up to the fact that they did adventure games better than anyone.

Doom 3 looks like plastic. Awesome graphics though, the leaked beta is by far the best looking game ever created. Except maybe HL2, but I can't judge that until Sept 30.
 
Yo northwood important question i got the alpha too and it says when i try to run it that it cant load default.cfg. What do i do???

Try deleting the main doom config file and the game will re-create its own.
