No doubt that some of you have read the 'location' thing under my name and wondered "Bahrain...where the hell is that?". So I thought it would be nice if I gave some of you a visual introduction to my nation, and spent a few minutes searching for some good pictures. I ended up finding a really good gallery, taken by an American visitor to Bahrain:

As you can probably tell, we're not as rich as the USA or Europe(I admit, I'm among the middle/upper class of the country), but we're nowhere near the level of poverty as nearby Iraq or Afghanistan.

Some good pics in there...
Fortress America :D

Did you take those pics? Wow, there are some really great ones there.

I have read about your country in National Geographic...
It's really nice land (finest in Middle East, I guess)

Heh, there are some things that pic doesn't show you:
1. The empty plot of land right next to the embassy that is almost covered with barbed wire.
2. The anti-vehicle obstacles placed on the sides of the building that faces the road.
3. The M16-packing guard who's always standing at the entrance.
4. The fact that your radio becomes slightly jammed when driving near the embassy due to the sheer amount of security equipment inside.

In this case, "fortress" is certainly not an understatement.

No I didn't. They were taken by an American tourist.

Half-Life 2!

Thanks, but I personally consider Qatar, the UAE, and possibly Kuwait to be slightly better countries. We're still one of the best in the region though.

looks warm!

It's actually pretty cool in the winter(ie, right now.) But if you're used to cold weather...don't come in the summer.

Water is beautiful! We don't get water like that here.

Really? I've always thought that Bahrain's water is a bit murky.(especially near the huge construction projects in Manama)

thats nowhere near murky, we got the grand river up here and if you drink it you will die. Well i assume, nobody has the balls to drink it

do they have a similar gallery for dubai ? ..people here in canada always ask me where i come from and havent the slightest clue about where dubai is or what it looks like.
oh and is it compulsory for gcc countries to have a clock tower :p http://www.pbase.com/bmcmorrow/image/32346363 coz dubai has one as well lol and im sure some of the other emirates have them.

It just sits there by the bay and looks badass

It's survived two category 4 hurricanes - both direct hits (Frederick and Ivan) . and two glancing blows from category 5's (Camille and Katrina).

there's also a ytmnd from a pic taken downtown after Katrina

Ouch.

Anyways, water near Manama and other built-up areas has a weird green tint to it, so I always assumed that it was murky. Now, maybe not.

Wow, what a shithole

Thanks. I appreciate the praise. :rolling:

And here I was thinking that I'm the only Arab on hl2.net! Anyways, a list of several huge Dubai galleries, made by the same guy who did the Bahrain one:

And we actually have a second famous clocktower:

This one is located in West Riffa, without a doubt the richest area in Bahrain. That's where all the big politicians and businessmen(including the King and Prime Minister) live.

Well, we have the entire US Navy 5th Fleet based here. But I never see them, either because I rarely go near the port where they're stationed, or they're usually anchored off-shore, or a combination of both. So I guess you win.

And I'm surprised that no one laughed at the oil museum, or the "first oil well" being marked as an important site.
