Well, I just got finished with Doom 3 and to sum it up, I'd say its much like a puddle of mercury: pretty to look at, fun for a little while, but ultamitly shallow despite the gloss.

Got me thinking about HL2 alot though. HL2's graphics do look great -better or worse than Doom 3? Niether, just different. Doom 3 's graphics are far from perfect. Even on the Ultra setting, the seams really do show here and there.

Doom 3 made me jump several times, but got really old really quick. I played through to see the enitre cast of enemies and they DO indeed look nice.

Which brings me (finally) to my point: The enemies in HL2 so far have not wowed me. I know they haven;t showed even close to everything and I have not played the game yet, but the zombies look a bit goofy and the bugs are not that threatening. Granted my knowledge of this is limited to the enemies list on this homepage and the vis, but short of a few (strider = wow) I'm a bit underwhelmed.

BUT man does that gameplay look deep. I can't wait for it. SO many options for the player to take out the enemy. Manipulator, physics, great weapons, some destructible environs,

See don;t get me wrong. I believe it will be one of the greatest games ever, but man I want some cool looking baddies. Your thoughts?

Oh yeah, and why does the shotgun not have a full cocking animation. I have never shot that model of shotgun before, but I have a few pumps of my own and love nothing more than a great shotgun in game. THink we can borrow Father Gregory's ov-under?

I agree with the monsters. No game in a long time has really come up with any original monsters, so I hope HL2 has some suprizes for us, since all we have seen are the soldiers and the striders in action (everything else is mechanic).

I'm somewhat agreeing. Im just hoping there will be a whole lot of different enemies. But I think the ones we seen are great, and look fun to kill. I hate game with 1-4 types of baddies. Games like that get boring. I dont think HL2 will be like this. Its gonnna be the best game EVER...

well, we have no clue what monsters will be in it, im sure there are several yet to be seen.

1 MORE POST AND IM AT 500!

I'm sure Half-Life 2 will have tons of new baddies, they wouldn't want to really ruin the suprises, would they?

I'm only in the alpha labs in doom 3. I sure hope the monsters get more interesting, they're pretty dull to me now.
I do like the fat zombie.

From what i've seen it honestly looks more fun to kill enemies in HL2 as it is in Doom 3.

Also i'm towards the end of doom 3 and every time i come across an imp I just get the feeling "oh great another one of these". Doom 3 had little variety in enemies through the majority of the game but when they did add some it was quite refreshing, but the AI was just awful and so predictable.

If you ask me the e32k4 movie on the beach where you are killing tons of antlions with your shotgun looks much more satisfying than anything Doom 3 had to offer. I'm also expecting tons of enemies we havn't seen yet :)

roughly..

doom3 is a horror/scary game.. ( less enemies.. dark.. scary.. ambinent sounds )

Halflife2 is a puzzle/action game.. ( more enemies.. interaction.. rave/techno music )

Remember that big green man eating plant with tenticles in HL1? That thing freaked me out!!! If they can conjour up a hideous creature like that, I can only imagine what they can do with the technology/graphics in hl2....

Personally, I think the Metrocops are some of the most bad-ass polygonal beasties to walk the virtual earth, but that's just me.

And damn, I want to see a Prowler/Female Assassin in motion. :O

Remember this thingy? Thingy

I think that'll be pretty cool once you see it in action. Isn't it supposed to be gigantic?

heehee no doubt. I think its supposed to be a giant living ship or transport (thats what it looks like to me). Whatever it is, I wouldn't want to leave my apartment with that thing waiting for me outside the doorway. I wonder what it eats?

Yeah the AI in Doom is pretty damn bad. I really want those scary creatures to follow me more, but the Imps that can crawl when scripted, can't crawl to follow you. Any idea on this in Halflife? I love to see enemies climbing ladders or creatures jumping up to the second floor (far cry).

I do have full faith in Valve. Granted, I thought some the enemies in HL1 were less than great -design-wise.

I saw the new bink and am once again excited about this game. You can see the depth just by watching a little film footage. I also think that there will be so many surprises in store that it will be a constant jaw dropping experience.

Seeing the blinds flipping up in the window when shot, seeing the manip pick up the saw blades and launch em at the zombies, the way that mattress bends and buckles...
