Hi, I don't know if there is a thread like this around (I search for it and couldn't find anything), and if there is close  .

This thread is about what you wish Half-Life 2 will improve upon. I'm not talking about the big stuff, that has been talked to death; I'm talking about small things that have been bothering you in other first person shooters. Have fun bitching :).

Let's see, first for those who have played Deus Ex 2, you'll know what I talk about. In DX2 you're like a walking bulldozer, when you walk in a room you shove things around like crazy even if they're really heavy (it's that easy), so you can **** up a room by just walking around it (what fun); make things more balanced in HL2 (source, I'm counting on you).

Another thing is the load-times. Keep the quick save/load fast, nothing more annoying than waiting half a minute to play again (DX2 cough cough).

Another pet-pieve. In HL1, the G-Man was unprotected (but out of reach); I shot like crazy and didn't even draw blood. Is G-Man invincible or what :).

I loved the crunching sound in Halo when you're driving and crashing you're vehicle. Give us that satisfhing sound when we crash into a tree or a meaty sound when we go around killing good old combine soldiers.

I want human gibs... In HL1, you could be talking to a scientist one minute and the next, he is in pieces all over the floor. Hilarious stuff. err... sick stuff..

This is one thing I really hope comes through. I hate waiting through load screens on all the newer games. Every time you die, you have to wait forever (ala FarCry. Painkiller is similar, but not as bad) to continue from the last save. And map load times can get ridiculous...

I'm hoping for a story that builds on itself and doesn't become stale half-way through. I enjoy the twists and turns that happen to a story and it adds to the tension. It was used insanely in Deus Ex.

I just care about the story, and I really want a good story.

How can you say stuff to improve HL2 when it's not finished! I can nitpick at shooters that are out till the cows come home. But if you haven't played a finished build and have only seen mvies and screenshots how can you know what it'll have and not have?

i want good sound effects... i hate bad shotgun sfx... like in hl UGHHH

I don't even care about any of the features missing etc. I just want the ****ing game now.

I'll toast to that

DX2: my biggest complaint has to be the lack of atmosphere. It is so dull being in those 'cities'. There is hardly anybody on the 'streets', it is continually night time, the same textures/models are used everywhere, few interesting events actually happen in the 'cities' aside from Your missions (even HL1 style scripted events would have added to the atmosphere), the maps indoor/outdoors gave me the impression of being in a giant dollhouse with it's lack of details (the hotel has 4 suites... that's not good), and I could go on.
I thought the design of the game was great as there really were many ways to complete a task and more importantly it made you *feel* that there are more routes than: 1.action, 2.stealth.

I didn't mean to make such a huge post but I JUST finished DX2 for the first time and I had to say something.

Eat Fresh and the Gamespot hands-on have proved that the loading times will be very brief - also the will be cached like Far cry after a load and unlike in painkiller where you have to load the whole thing over again.

Yeah, that's the thing that worries me most about HL2 - it could be one thing that has the potential to ruin the game if it goes weird. I trust Laidlaw, but it's still a bit make-or-break

i think that it would be cool if gordon reflected in water or mirror, IMO that would be awesome

Personally I think that's part of his appeal. If you cheated at the end and tried to shot him, he'd just spark as if you'd shot metal and it had ricocheted. A lot of people have read a lot into that...
You can't hurt him, and if he wanted to he could kill you, literally without lifting a finger. Some people have said they want to see him fight in HL2, but that's just not who he is. He's above that.

Lots of stuff I want in the game that isn't there already, but I can't think of them.

I just want the friggin' game.

I want the physgun, so i can weld DOG to a wall and maybe weld Dr Kliener's forehead to a computer monitor. That would be funny

Here are my "OMG ARE DEVELOPERS BLIND" things

balancing over an edge on the tip of your heels, clipping: from limb trough chest clipping to body's and guns clipping trough walls, boring repeating textures, over used effects like "Normal mapping" everywhere, Lensflares (they are satan), stupid "let the player walk trough an entire level to find a key with no clue's of where it will be, and then let him search a door that can be unlocked with that key" puzzles, enemy AI that knows where you are all the time, NPC's that shoot you instead of the enemy. oh and not forget "save points" It killed FarCry for me.

and the list goes on and on

Most of those sound like they're from Far Cry, except the clipping part.

I want more interaction with electrical equipment in the game.

i.e. go up to a touch screen monitor or something, and gain access through different screens

or

shooting electrical cable or blowing a fuse will short out lights on the level or somthing like that

Well, in the original Source demo, they showed how input/output systems worked within the game so one presumes you'll at least be able to interact with security cameras.
As for blowing fuses and stuff, it seems like just the kind of puzzle to show off how very diverse indeed Source is. So yeah maybe.

Im another for short loading times, however gibbing scientists was quite appealing :D
