Sonic The Hedgehog - Source Mod

Hey everyone! You have probaly seen how the Sonic games in 3D style have been developing, and most of you will probaly agree that it's quite shit. I'm tired of all this arcade, no free gameplay controll in the sonic games. Retarded camera that have a life of it's own. Totaly retarded levels with no basic realism or natural feel to it, sonic doing retarded arcadeish moves that could have been left out for a much more dynamic gameplay.

I have been thinking of starting a sonic mod, in the way I think it should have always been done. Like how good Super Mario was ported from 2D to 3D (super mario 64). I'll write down some points that i'd like to work on if anyone is willing to do this with me. :p

1) Natural and sort-of realistic enviroments in the sonic universe. Take Sonic & Knuckles for example where they used natural formation to do stuff.

2) Dynamic controll over Sonic (or any other character). No arcade or help from the engine. Having moves based on physics in the Source Engine.

3) Sonics spin (roll) will be in physics, like a wheel that rolls, we have all seen this in the HL2 Singleplayer and know it can work. It would add a much cooler and fluid feel to the gameplay.

4) No midair dash crap. It's just as silly as what happend to the from Jedi Knight 2 to Jedi Knight 3. You should be able to move where you want no matter whats happening. Like if your gonna kick (im not saying that's gonna be a part of his moves), you can still do a backflip, frontflip or something while doing it.

5) Use only original characters. Not those who are severly messed up throughout the series (specialy Amy, if shes gonna be in it you gotta do something about that magic hammer that comes from nowhere.). Sonic, Shadow, Knuckles, Tails are those i consider original characters because they don't need any fancy tools to work. Also I hear that some hate shadow so it can be done like removing some of he's overpowering powers. I don't know yet. :p

6) Multiplayer with many gamemodes; Racing, fighting, sandbox (do whatever you want), capture the ring (and the ring has the same power as you saw in the Sonic SatAM series, making your powers greater).

7) No humans, they never showed up in the games before Sonic Adventure (2D-3D screwup). The locations will be remembered places like; Angel Island (Angel Island contains a lot of locations), Death Egg, New and innovative Green Hill, Jungle thing from Sonic 3. No arcade worlds like casino level, it's just weird in my opinion. :p

I am also thinking about singleplayer. If there is gonna be one it's gotta be interesting. Something floating around the Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 3, story.

8) Mix between new and old artstyle. The curren't style sonic is drawed in looks to aggressive in some ways. Like extreme green eyes (symbolise some sort of evil), etc.

Ok so I hope I might find someone who agrees with me and are willing to work on this shit. Programming and other technical crap would be nice, cause i don't know anything about programming when it comes to C++ or whatever that is needed. Modelling, animating would also be needed. Or I will learn it myself. :p (( By the way; This can also possibly be done in Garry's Mod 10 as a gamemode ))

If you got better ideas the come with suggestions. :p

Also this doesn't have to be finnished, it can be a nice experiment. It depends on how it turns out.

If your wondering what i can do on the artistic side you can take a look at this map that i am working on that is filling all of the source engines max map grid. Textures and stuff is made by me. (by the way, it's in ambient light)

It was a joke :p

And that map - amazing. It's friggin huge. I wonder how good a computer you need to play that.

holy **** that map is huge.
kudos- only problem I can see is that it will take a ****tastically long time to download and load up..

It doesn't take as much time as people think, and it certainly run 3 times better then people imagine, because I have been optimizing it to the max. :p I would never make a map that would technicaly kill itself and the computer.

If that map is in the mod, then I'm ready to be in the team for whatever cost.

:D

It's not for the mod. But that doesn't mean i will not make things that aren't as awesome as it. The "epic-map" is my first real attempt (and very successfull) at making a map where all the resources are made by me. I have learned to make nice textures and stuff with a nice workflow etc. :p Mapping the way I do there is very effective, and it doesn't have any geometrical limitations (using brushes as i do there). The way I create that map isn't far from how Bungie make their maps in Halo. :p

EDIT: That map is for the Source Engine (all games), specialy garry's mod.

Sounds like it could be cool, but you might get hammered for copyright infringement. Sonic isn't considered dead as there's a new game for the Wii coming out, and Nintendo is just big enough that they might stop you.

where is the epic map going to be used?
hl2dm is a DEFINATE nono :p
imagine trudging for hours just to get near an enemy then you get promptly shot in the face..
