Sony Computer Entertainment and Square Enix are being sued over allegations that Final Fantasy XIII is crashing and permanently bricking PS3 consoles.

Daniel Wolf of San Diego claims that his copy of Square's RPG rendered his machine inoperable after he tried to save his campaign progress and his console crashed. The lawsuit claims that the game has been causing "severe and widespread damage" to PS3s, and seeks over $5 million in damages and various financial relief.

Wolf says Sony offered to fix his console for $270.
The class claims Sony and Square Enix, which makes Final Fantasy XIII, "are eminently aware of the damage being caused by their defective products, and have chosen to do nothing about it," though both companies "have been deluged with consumer complaints" since the game was released in March this year.
The companies have blamed each other for the problem, and neither has recalled the game or the PS3, or disseminated a fix for the defective products, according to the complaint.

You remember that story awhile back about the Large Hadron Collider? How a couple scientists proposed the machine might be sabotaging itself because the particle it's trying to create is abhorrent to nature?

Games are abhorrent to PS3. If you try to play one, it will destroy your system. Sony is well aware of this.

I have the game, played it for 20 hrs and stopped. maybe I'll come back to it but I haven't heard anything about it destroying PS3s

Guffaw'd.

So whatever happened to all those guys suing Microsoft over Xbox failures, anyway?

You would think that if the game was bricking PS3's, we would have heard about it by now...since....well, this is a first for me and I'm sure quite a few others.
