Sony thinks 360 and Wii are over-priced

if they want to compete against the already massively popular 360.
Uh, I am not sure anyone IRL would call the 360 "massively popular" quite yet. It has been doing okay, but people haven't had any other options in terms of next-gen (handhelds and PS2s are outselling it nicely all over the world). The fanbase is largely the same fanbase from the original xbox just switching over--which they'd better do quick since MS has abandoned the original xbox. Interestingly enough, I myself am waiting for a pricedrop to get a 360 (and also to see how well it runs Alan Wake/Bioshock), though I am quite excited for it and have always hated the original xbox. I will definitely get a PS3 as well, but again, not until a price drop. The Wii is a foregone conclusion after the love the DS has shown me.

Sh1t's going to get real interesting come November/December...I can't wait!!!

Not quite true. Many pc only gamers who before wouldn't have considered a console have made the jump to the 360. There are a load of forums filled with reports of just this.

While still very much a console, with it's excellent online service and games which overlap both formats the 360 is the most pc like console there has been.

Yeah, the xbox was the first closest thing to a PC for many gamers. And I am an example of PC people moving to the 360 (well, eventually), to an extent at least.

However, it still cannot be argued that its a massive success quite yet, esp. when the competition hasn't been available. It'll be very interesting to see the state of the "next-gen" console sales after holiday '07. Next year's going to kick-ass for gamers of all persuasions.

Agreed. I wasn't suggesting the 360 has been huge, but it is doing considerably better than the Xbox. I also can't think of another single format that can boast a lineup as good. Of course, this can all change soon, but things are looking rosey for the 360 at the mo.

correct me if I am wrong but, I heard some stuff about the low end PS3 not only having a smaller hard drive, but also the system specs were shittier... can't remember where I read this however.... just remembered people were pissed.

You're wrong...sort of. The specs are almost the same, but the core comes with some fewer USB ports and no bluetooth capability or something to that effect (can't remember exactly). The processor and the GPU are the same and both have hdmi too, so there's not that much that's different. The extra HDD space is worth it though....

In terms of actual system performance, there's absolutely no difference between core and premium.

As for the specifics, I think premium comes with 60 Gig (vs. 20), WiFi, and multi-format memory card reader. Not sure about extra USB ports and whatnot though, but don't take my word as final.

ah ok thanks, that's excellent... no bluetooth though? doesnt that mean that you can't use cordless controllers?

No no no, all versions of the PS3 support the cordless controllers. As a matter of fact I don't even think they have wired versions available.

Yes, you are correct sir.

From a PS3 faq:
Although there are two configurations fore PlayStation 3, the key elements are standard – Blu-Ray discs, Cell chip, Giga-bit Ethernet to provide an always on connection to the network, and a pre installed hard disk drive (HDD) as standard.

On top of these great features, the 60GB HDD version includes support for compact flash, SD and Memory Stick Duo, and Wireless (internet) connectivity.

Like I said, its worth it for the HDD alone frankly.

You're forgetting what the PS3 has. It's the most powerful console and it's equipped with a Bluray player.
wrong...ps3 is almost identicle to the x360..and blurays nothing...
and this is too shorT?the hell

Not according to most developers. The power of the systems is seen as relatively similar, but the architectures are pretty darn different.

and blurays nothing...
That is a pretty ignorant statement considering all the major Hollywood studios except one have shown all sorts of support for this format. Its just getting started so please hold all further dumb comments back until it and HD-DVD have gone at each other for a few rounds, eh?
