Sony Viral Marketing = FAILURE

Viral Marketing (ARGs) can be low budget to, which is pretty much the line you made between Viral and Guerilla marketing.

Sony did this by using the idea of an existing social network, (Youtube) just basically recreating it and putting in biased videos of one of their products.

What Sony did is Viral Marketing, not Guerilla Marketing
Well, perhaps it's both. But regardless of the cost, I think it's predominantly guerilla marketing, because their advertisements are masquerading as consumer opinions and community-created media.

Viral marketing is essentially advertising manifested through the pre-existing social network's own word of mouth. What Sony did was disguise itself as the actual network through deception and kick off its advertising with what can be accurately described as "fake hype".

This is guerilla marketing. The very purpose of it was to fool the target audience into thinking it was legitimate consumer opinion.

I hope they fired the 50-something year old that thought this would be a good idea.

This is so sad.

Sony sucks ass. It didn't use to (PS was fine); but then it got to their heads.

F*ck Sony.

I guess either way it doesn't matter too much because it FAILED. YOU HEAR THAT SONY? FAILLLEEED!
