I'd always choose Sony over Samsung if both were of a similar spec.

Samsung is worlds better than sony. In fact Samsung is probably the best in the world.

Lets be fair and compare..........

[the Sony link is broken]

Reading the samsung sales pitch, it sounds like it's fantastic...

I have heard it over and over again that Sony TV's are not keeping up with other brands [like Samsung and a few others]

... and yet they see fit to charge the same amount or even more.

Lawl

Sony banks on their name recognition to the average consumer.

For TVs it's definately samsung. Just look at the two models side by side, you'll notice the samsung displays are absolutely stunning, and the sony displays just don't stand out from the rest. I've just got myself a 40" samsung HDTV.

Definitely go for the Samsung i had a Sony 40" HD LCD it was rubbish luckily it broke down so i got my money back and got a Samsung and it's totally better

Samsung is the best. Buy it. BUY IT. BUY IT!

Go to an electronics store where they have both and compare. It's the only way.

Sony kinda have better contrast ratio : 7000/1
Samsung : 6000/1

thats the only difference between them

tho people says Sony breaks down easily.

Thats not the only difference between them. What about the part where the samsung doesn't have ghosting? (motion blur) I'd say that's pretty huge. I won't even buy LCD because of Ghosting.

I returned my Samsung lcd due to ghosting. It wasn't the latest model, though, about 6 months old.

If you can, just compare the screens in the store rather than looking at numbers.

Sadly LCD Contrast Ratio is only a ratio of how bright the brightest color is to darkest. (light in the room and angle at which it is measured give different results) It doesn't mean a display with a higher ratio compared to one with a lower ratio will give you a more gradual blend of colors between lets say red and orange AND it doesn't mean the higher contrast ratio screen can display more colors either.

Interesting link with pics
The bottom right screen does indeed have the higher contrast ratio. But looking at the next picture between the top and left screen you would think the left one has the next highest ratio measured. It doesn't, the Samsung on top claims 15,000:1 while the Panasonic on the bottom left claims only 5000:1. But the 15,000:1 screen looks more washed out than the 5000:1 screen. (keep in mind these are plasma screens and I am not directly comparing the Samsung model here to the one you are looking at)

So what should I make of all this contrast ratio bragging going on? The best bet is to ignore it entirely. It is marketing hype. Contrast ratio is the least important number to look at when making a purchase. Judge with your own eyes.
So there you go DigiQ8.

I would try to find a set of reviews for the best rated TV's. You might find out about something totally different than these two models.

You might consider Pioneer (my favorite car audio brand) and Panasonic. These two companies have been around for as long as Sony I think, and they have always had tremendous bang for the buck. Their products are often better than more expensive brands. They don't spend much money on advertising and stuff, so you don't pick up the bill for it when you buy their stuff.

When it comes to PC monitors, personally, I am going to buy a Samsung, but I don't know much about TV's, since I haven't done any research.

Out of your two choices, if you are going to use it for any kind of gaming, the Samsung TV would be a much better choice because you won't have motion blur to deal with. That shit sucks ass. It's hard to keep track of what is happening in the game until you stop moving in severe cases.

One example I can think of is the original Gameboy. Even playing slower moving games like Mario Brothers, the screen just became a big blur where you can hardly tell where you are going when you ran.

Is Full HD worth buying really ?
i found this HD TV (Link), and the image quality + the colors are great, but its 768.

so what you guys think ?

I liked the Samsung in the Original Post. This one seems like a downgrade. What does it have? Ambient lighting? That seems kind of gimmicky.

The Samsung in the OP seems like the ultimate Monitor for games, movies, TV, and any other kind of input signal you can think of.
