June 30, 2006 - Ouch! The Associated Press is reporting that Japanese tax authorities have ordered Sony to pay an estimated 27.9 billion yen ($243 million) in additional taxes.

According to a statement issued by Sony, Japanese tax authorities found fault with tax payments related to profits from PlayStation console sales and profits from transactions relating to CD and DVD business operations between Sony and a number of overseas subsidiaries from 1999 to 2004.

The taxation bureau calculated Sony's income in Japan to be 74.4 billion yen ($647 million) more than the amount it orignally reported.

Lie 1: There will be 7 wireless controllers avaliable.

Truth: Wrong, actually check before you say anything, the controller only enables 4 wireless controllers, look at the top of the controller and see, 1,2,3 and 4.

Lie 2: WiFi will be standard

Truth: WiFi not standard.

I'm curious, do you have an incentive to campaign against Sony? A personal vendetta? Monetary gain? I mean I can understand when people debate the pro's and con's of each console but it seems like your posts solely rests on attacking Sony.

About the Sony "lies", they put a lofty goal but didn't meet the technical expectations. It's not a big deal, what would is if they advertised it on their box but sold it with less specifications.

90% of the forum has a bias, but I don't recall anyone specifically posting the same video link three times in different threads while all attacking Sony. I don't support any specific company just from their brand, but rather I support the product if it appeals to me. I have a bias for Sony games but I wouldn't deliberately go out of my way to slant and attack the Xbox or Nintendo.

Hasn't Combine Hybrid stated numerous times that he hates sony, and Virustype too. Besides 90% go's far beyond bias, the constantly attack sony ivert he most superficial things, accuse sony of the same practices they excuse MS and N from. Thats not bias anymore thats pure faboyism.

I don't know Combine Hybrid or remember those posts, but yeah I do remember Virus admitting hatred somewhere. I'll agree to that, this forum is heavily slanted towards the Xbox360 fanbase, whether it's traditional fanboyism well that's up to debate. To me at least, it seems like the forum has a few vocal fanboys that directs the rest of the herd.

I would be more worried about the fact that they lied about how much profit they made to evade taxation, A trend in large buisness these days perhaps, lie or put the mullar in offshore bank accounts.

That's true, but as far as I know. Both Microsoft and Nintendo haven't made any claims about their systems that they didn't fully make good on. Xbox 360 is exactly what Microsoft said it would be. Gamecube is exactly what Nintendo said it would be, and I have the same expectation of the Wii. I may be wrong though, but I haven't seen anything yet that would make my point wrong. I am of the opinion that Sony has made a lot of mistakes with the PS3, but they are not too far along that they cannot redeem themselves with great games on a great console.

I saw this in the news the other day, and didn't really think it was worth creating a thread for. Yes, 246 million is a shit-load of money, and if you think 246 million dollars doesn't hurt, you are fooling yourself, but it's not going to put them out of business, not in the least. Sony are lying, tax evading, malicious spy-ware using, misleading, hunk of over-priced shit with counter-productive OS producing bloodsucking greedy bastards.

This is my opinion of them. It's not that I am a fan-boy of anything, I can't decide if I want a Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, a new PC, or nothing at all. They are all pretty much equal in my book. I'm just appalled by the way Sony does business, and will never support them by buying their crap.

And if what I've said bothers you, that's because you are a Sony fan-boy, and you need to be converted. :)

I think this forum is more slanted towards Nintendo actually. I think the Sony hatred started around when the Killzone 2 video was revealed to be pre-rendered. At the beginning of the Killzone 2 thread everyone was saying "Wow, Sony wins this one for sure". But then people started to realize it was fake, even though they were being told it was real. Everyone hates being shown pre-rendered videos of games and being told "omg this is what it will look like when it's done!" because they know it won't look anything like that at all. So they started to get pissed off at Sony. Then came E3, and Sony had virtually nothing to show but a watered down Revolution controller, a $500 price tag, and "Riiiiiiidge Racer!". I'm not really a fan of Sony, but I don't like MS either. I don't think I'm going to buy either of thier consoles this time. I might buy from Nintendo, but I haven't decided. I'm kind of skeptical about the new controller.

I never said I hate Sony in this forum, but I do not like how they are handling their business. It seems so lackluster.

Atleast your honest. But that you really really dislike them is obvious, you pretty much take shots at them for the smallest reasons, and your goals seem to insiperd by hate for them, rather then true objections.

Well being that this 'next gen battle' is primarily between MS and Sony, I kind of left the big N out of the loop. As far as the pre-rendered demos are concerned, that was simply a PR move. Can you imagine how devastating it would be if they showed up empty handed? People attack Sony for the sake of their brand, any slight tidbit of info is instantly twisted into "OMG SONY SUCKS or SONY IS SCREWED!".

As far has having nothing to show for at E3, I was completely blown away by MGS4. There are other titles that seem promising but I won't bother listing them out, I couldn't be arsed to.
 
I agree, MGS4 was just a beauty. Although, I'm probably the biggest fan of MGS than any other people out there, I just can't throw my $600+ through the toilet just for this game.

FYI, the last 5 years haven't exactly been that kind to their shareholders--their stock has lost half its value over that time period.

Also, the Japanese Tax Authorities are cracking down on other corporations in order to make their financial dealings more transparent, not unlike the Sarbanes-Oxley Act here in the US has been doing in order to prevent meltdowns like Enron in the future. Mazda Motor Corp, trading houses Mitsui & Co. and Mitsubishi Corp, Sharp Corp, and Takeda Pharmaceutical Co have all been subject to such fines. The fact that the gaming press is making such a big deal of this is a sure sign that gaming news has a ways to go before it figures out how to properly fill-in dead air.

I don't mind pre-rendered demos so much, as long as it's expicitly stated that it is not an actual game. Sony didn't do that. I got the impression that they were trying to fool us, and they did indeed fool many people. The MGS4 trailer didn't impress me at all, seeing as it showed zero gameplay. Most of Sony's other stuff seemed pretty average.

i don't know how anyone could be impressed by a pre-rendered video, i mean, we've been seeing videos/cutscenes of awesome quality for years (intros for games, cut scenes in games like ff and what not) so i still don't get why people get all hyped about it.

either, hands on or gameplay videos from an outside source (gaming website or whatever).

i still hear pro-sony morons saying how 'killzone 2 lookz so awsome lols.'
 
I will stick to playing PS2 and when Wii comes out, I will definetly go and buy it, if I had the chance though.

PS3, $599??? Wow, that's sooooo expensive.

Anyway, since you guys still defend Sony regardless of their lies. Well, I won't say anything about it anymore, you guys win. Anyway, PS3 will be coming on Spring 2006.
