Sony, you are screwed. I mean SCREWED!

PS3, $599??? Wow, that's sooooo expensive.

Anyway, since you guys still defend Sony regardless of their lies. Well, I won't say anything about it anymore, you guys win. Anyway, PS3 will be coming on Spring 2006.

The price is steep, too pricey IMO but not as drastic as people make it out to be. Their stock model is already more impressive than the 360 premium and it's about $100 dollars more. That's what, 2 year's worth of XBLive subscriptions? Considering you're getting Blu-Ray player on top of that, the pricing isn't the end of world. I'd imagine a 360 + HD DVD external drive would be in the ballpark range of a PS3. Although an interesting point that often get's ignored is the fact that the consumer is getting more value (at least monetary wise) than what they paid for.

Personally I'm going to wait until manufacturing costs get cut down (~ a year?) before I even consider a console.

One thing I do find pretty funny is how everyone here is clamoring "OMG $500-600!!11" when there are plenty of users here with video cards already in that similar price range.

edit: Defend is a strong word, it's not like I'm loyal to Sony (I like the library of games, that's it). I'd like to think I'm trying to bring reason into these discussions rather than throwing around random tidbits of info yelling my head off "OMG MS SUX!1!"

I don't think Sony will change their mind on the pricing, Kaz Hirai already stated that it will be $599. But let's wait till Spring 2006. I feel very sorry for those Sony fanboys like you who defended Sony.

Think they will cut down the price? Fat hope, you can only dream that the price will be cut down, but in reality, imo, it will not. I find it pretty funny that you chided people wailing about the price, so who do you think you are? A rich billion dollar kid? If you are, go get yourself a PS3 when it comes out on Spring 2006.

I'm sorry, I should've went the same route as you did slanting the 360 / Wii as the sole purpose of my posts on why they suck. I see that you either completely misunderstood or just didn't plain read. Let me explain:

"Personally I'm going to wait until manufacturing costs get cut down (~ a year?) before I even consider a console."

What that mean's, is that I'm not going to consider buying a console until ~2007, commonly referred to as 'next year'. Now that you understand, price cuts on consoles are inevitable, every console will slash pricing. If you think Sony will sell the PS3 at $500 / $600 for it's entire lifespan then you my friend, are seriously mistaken.

As for this...

I find it pretty funny that you chided people wailing about the price, so who do you think you are? A rich billion dollar kid? If you are, go get yourself a PS3 when it comes out on Spring 2006.

I thought I was pretty clear on this, but you seem to have completely mistaken my point. My sentence referred to many people in this forum (not me) have several hundred dollar graphic cards on their computer (often two in conjunction), the pricing on equipment like that is not too far off from that of a PS3 console.

If you think I'm gloating about being rich then you could not have been more mistaken of both my scenario and my post.

Guess you chose to ignore that and claim I'm a Sony fanboy, props to ya.

Well, good luck to you then, AiM, the truth will be revealed in Spring 2006, who knows? So, Sony fanboy, wait till Spring 2006 to see whether the PS3 will be released.

Very true. Regardless of how expensive the PS3 is, it's very cheap compared to a gaming pc.

I've been looking at various components to upgrade my gaming rig (mainly for Quake Wars) - they come to over £1000! Even if I spent that much it wouldn't last as long as a PS3 or 360.

When it comes to gaming, consoles give superb value for money.

I'm under the impression that you didn't bother to read (or understand) my above post. You know this is the THIRD time I've had to explain myself, maybe putting it in bold seperate sentence will help.

I'm saying the price will likely drop sometime next year, not launch price!

"Personally I'm going to wait until manufacturing costs get cut down (~ a year?) before I even consider a console.

------------

So you see, I'm not saying Sony will cut launch price. I'm saying they will cut price eventually, most likely after a year or so. That's when I will consider the pro's and con's of each console to see if any are worth buying.

If you don't understand after this 3rd post then I give up, I might as well talk to a brick wall.

edit: I underlined the big sentence as well... :|

$$$

And to be fair, that gaming rig would already struggle with some current games, let alone titles to be released over the coming years.

Some game studio honchoes are already saying that Sony HAS to cut the price of the system in 2007 if they want to compete in this market and I totally agree with them (SEGA and Ubisoft). Sure, see how many early adopters you can sucker in (as with any console at launch) and then as the market saturation increases, production costs lessen, and consoles can be sold for cheaper but still potentially for a profit. Besides the Wii, I probably won't buy a 360 or PS3 until next year anyway. The games are what I am after and most of the really exciting ones we have heard about won't be out until well into next year anyway--plenty of time to save up for either sytem and enjoy loads of fun times on the Wii!

f*ck, I just wrote out a long, thought-out post that went over the whole Wii, PS3, X360 thing.... and due to an error it got erased.... f*ck

Just to summarize - Wii rocks (holy f*cking shit this will be fun, especially with friends), PS3 is f*cking amazing (new controller, new EyeToy, MGS4, cell, etc.), X360 is still mediocre til better games come out (Halo 3's a crapshoot at this point, and Bioshock and Alan wake are both coming out for PC as well)

That's his point. They were full of shit about the release date. " Wait wait, don't buy a 360, we've got tech demo's niXXa! Tech DEMOS! THis is actuallly gameplay!! watch in real time the pre-rendered video ! (pre-rendered video that was actually created on a PC, but we put a PS3 watermark on there to mislead you) Coming in Spring 2006, the POS3!"

Many people say they have to pay $1000 or $2500 for a new PC. This isn't very good shopping.

You know, for $200 I bought my PC on sale, it included everything I needed, like sound, monitor, 512MB, Windows XP, broadband and dial-up internet adapter, etc. IT CAME WITH A Flat Screen 17" MONITOR MAN. I bought an additional 512MB RAM on sale for about $30 and a video card for $40 on sale, and with it, I can play Half-Life2 and Doom 3 (that came out about the same month that I bought my PC), and it can also play just about any game that came out before them pretty well. There are also games that will come out after that are playable, like Prey and others. I'm an audiophile, so I upgraded the on-board sound and picked up a pretty nice sound card with fiber-optic output for about $35, that I can use for my next PC as well.

When PC games come out, they are usually designed for the bleeding edge hardware, so that they look as good as possible on the box, and last a few years, but you can always adjust the graphic quality. THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT AN AVERAGE PC has to be set to maximum quality and complain that a PC struggles.

You know, the PS2, GC, and Xbox run in somewhere around 640 x 480 resolution? So if you are going to say that a PC struggles more than consoles, set your PC to 640 x 480 resolution, and/or plug your video card into your TV first.

That's silly and illogical. The fact is that 640x480 looks fine on a TV but looks like shit on a monitor. I've never tried plugging my computer to a TV but I have the feeling it wouldn't work well for games.

Also, I seriously doubt that for $200 you got a tower complete with everything you need AND a 17" flat panel monitor. Either you signed up for one of those stupid services where they drain a lot of money out of you or you bought it used. That is ridiculous. The monitor itself costs almost that much.

Also, I don't think he was trying to prove a point with the Spring comment :D

You can't state an OPINION as a FACT. If you think so, then fine, but for me 640x480 doesn't look very good on a TV or a monitor, but don't miss the point. This is the resolution that the consoles render at, so when you set your PC to 1280x 1024 or higher resolution, and your game struggles to run a bit, realize that it's possibly because you are running at more than twice the resolution (something like twice the strain on the Video card).

I've never tried plugging my computer to a TV but I have the feeling it wouldn't work well for games.
It doesn't make any difference whether it is plugged into your monitor or a TV, it is rendered at the same speed. It's a difference of the display only.

Besides, wasn't it you that was raving about how awesome it was to run your PC on your TV? Maybe that was Idonotbelonghere and/or Dumb Dude. I know my $40 video card has an output for a TV, and I have tried it, but a PC monitor looks about 100 times better at 640 x 480 (or any other resolution) in my opinion.

Well, why don't you just call me a liar? I didn't sign up for shit. I bought it brand new the day after Thanksgiving on a big sale (always the busiest shopping day of the year in North America when the best deals can be found) in 2004. Yes it came with a DVD player/CD Burner RW, and all types of shit. Althought, I got lucky to get it at that price, in fact, if it wasn't such a great price, I wouldn't even have bought it, and wouldn't have a computer right now. The model I bought isn't sold anymore, Here is a good place to look for a similar PC, but it's probably faster than mine, since it is 2 years newer. Just make sure you buy one with an AGP or PCI-E slot. Mine only had PCI slots, so that seriously limited the graphics card potential.

Here is the first place that popped up on a google search.

You had an absolute freak steal if you bought that computer at $200. The flat screen monitor alone would normally come close to the price itself, let alone the rest of the parts. Hell if I bought a comp at $200 I wouldn't even worry about PCI-e slots but rather if the damn thing even works (if it had those specs, one of those too good to be true scenarios) If you look at the link you provided, the cheapest comps there have either integrated graphic's or bargain bin graphic's cards. They wouldn't come close to running the more recent games out now, and if you buy these now it'll require perpetual upgrades to even have a chance at running the new games.

As for the Spring comment, I'm pretty damn sure Double_Blade wasn't trying to make a point but rather he beleived that was the release date.

No it doesn't. You can get this monitor for as low as $55 new (I just looked for you), and thats not part of a bundle, which saves you money. Mine came with my PC, and I was surprised too, that's why I bought the computer. It was a bargain. You just have to shop around man. Of course, people will try to sell things for as much as they can, so you have to search around.

Here it says these monitors can be had for as low as $55 - again, the first link that came up. If you want the best deal you'll have to search around, and wait for a sale:
http://www.shopping.com/xPC-E_Machines_eMachines_17_Flat_Screen_CRT_Monitor~S-P~OR-0

I even said I got a great deal. My computer came with Intel Extreme Graphics 2 internal graphics acceleration. I didn't say that it could play modern games without a graphics card. In fact, I said at least once, that I bought an a graphics card on sale for $39.99 (half-price sale at Circuit City)

If you look at the link you provided, the cheapest comps there have either integrated graphics or bargain bin graphics cards. They wouldn't come close to running the more recent games out now, and if you buy these now it'll require perpetual upgrades to even have a chance at running the new games.
I just googled for emachines computers or something and that was the first link on the first page that caught my eye. I'm not going to take hours or so out of my time to search for an identical deal that I got, especially when the exact model I bought isn't even made anymore. I have wasted an hour of my time already screwing around showing you guys that you can get a really awesome game computer, and it doesn't have to cost a lot of money.

And it does run recent games out now, and even ones not out yet like Prey and Resident Evil 4. And I bought my Computer 2 years ago! It runs Prey, HL-2, FEAR, Medal of Honor Pacific Assault, Silent Hill 3, Max Payne 2, WoW, Doom 3, etc. These are the games I bought and they play quite well, especially Max Payne 2, it runs like a dream in 1600x1200 resolution even, and I play all my games in Maximum texture resolution. It doesn't require perpetual upgrades man, in fact, I won't be upgrading it. When the time comes, I'll buy a new computer, and I will wait until I get a great deal once again.

And I got a great deal, yes. But it isn't hard to believe when the random ass link I provided has vastly superior computers for sale for about $289 and $300.

Of course, you could get ripped off buying an equivalent PC and pay some ridiculous amount, but I didn't.

I mean read the features man:

Don't you think a better AMD 64 BIT processor (mine is the lowest performance - Celeron), a DVD burner/ Re-writer (mine is only CD burner), 160 gigabyte of hard drive(mine is 80GB) space, a PCI-Express slot (mine only PCI), dual channel memory (unknown), and Geforce graphics (mine is only Intel Integrated)should boost the price up some?!

Please, do not call me a liar. no one can find one single thing I have ever said on Half-Life2.net that is a lie. Search every one of my posts I have ever made and you will not find 1 lie.

I TAKE AN EXTREME AMOUNT OF OFFENSE TO BEING CALLED A LIAR, AND I TAKE GREAT PRIDE IN THE FACT THAT I DO NOT LIE. If I were to lie, it would be a very rare situation indeed. For example, to protect myself or loved ones from harm or trouble, NOT to prove I got a better deal on a ****ing computer.

For example:
1)No officer, I didn't realize my license was suspended.
2)No my girlfriend, I didn't think she was more attractive than you!
3)No Mom, I have never done drugs.

He does understand you. Double_Blade is very smart, and very much was making a mockery of PS3.

If you don't think so, you are quite wrong. It's past Spring 2006 now. Don't you think he doesn't realizes what year it is? It is blatantly OBVIOUS to me that he is taking a jab at Sony for being so full of shit. This is when they first announced the PS3 was coming out, before it was delayed.

Read what he is saying again, and tell me he is not mocking Sony fans, and mocking Sony's lies. He purposely said "spring 2006 release date" FIVE times, in FOUR consecutive posts. COULD IT BE ANY MORE OBVIOUS? He said it twice in one damn post. WAKE UP.

your(emanchines) misleading, flat screens are usually concidered lcd monitors, not crt monitors with a flat screen. i think that is the mix up,

also emachines is norotious for having failing components around these parts(poor quality/cheap equipment) so you get the discount. but good buy none the less.

QFT

VirusType2: When you mention flat screen people usually think LCD monitor. I gave a quick froogle and found the averages around $220-440 (likely without shipping nor tax).

Even then, I checked your link and what you failed to mention was:

1.) Shipping - The $55 dollar one featured ~$28+ shipping
2.) Refurbished!

Your typical brand new flat screen CRT monitors cost ~$150 alone.

As for orange text of eMachines being legendary service / reliablility or whatever, that's just a PR statement. Personally I've heard of not so glorious reviews about eMachines, so has RevisedSoul apparently.

Anyway this is getting off subject and discussing whatever best deals here are irrelevant. I never came out and called you a liar, I was skeptical about the deals but I never claimed you lied. However, I do remember a specific thread comparing Quake Wars to BattleField 2 graphics and while you posted all the high res shots of Quake Wars, you found one screenshot of BattleField : Modern Combat on the consoles (which is far inferior graphicwise and completely different game compared to PC BattleField 2). I didn't check back on that thread so maybe it was not intentional, I don't know.

You claim Double_Blade was very smart, then how on earth did he completely miss out on every single point I made? He replied directly to my posts and each time he completely missed my points and just shrugged me off saying I was "another fanboy" (Right after my post saying I only like their games). Isn't it quite ironic that he was the one actively doing a smear campaign against Sony on whoevers behalf?

Yes his posts were obvious, obvious in the sense that he was saying it literally. As in go buy it at that date where he thought it was to be released while not realizing it's already past Spring himself!

edit: You say he understood me, then why does he believe that I said Sony will cut price at launch when I've said in THREE straight posts that they will likely cut it a year later?

Emachines used to be pretty bad for quality. I have not had any major issues with them currently. FYI Gateway now owns Emachines.

Pretty good PC made from parts for $650
OS is the only thing missing...
Besides Monitor and Speakers but a PS3 does not give you that either.

Dude you are being such a troll. I feel like I am on ****ing trial here, and I'm REALLY ****ING PISSED OFF ABOUT IT. I might have to put some people on ignore or leave the forum.

I JUST CLICKED THE FIRST LINK AFTER TYPING "EMACHINES 17 flat screen buy" in the ****ing god damned google browser. I'm not responsible for finding you a good deal on a monitor, In fact, I even said, "search for yourself", and merely pointed you both in the general direction, by telling you what brand of computer I have, and some of the details. I couldn't give a shit how much you pay for your hardware. I walked in and bought my computer at Best Buy. (a local electronics super-store) and the monitor came with it.

If you want to pay $440 for the same monitor that I got for free, I'm sure someone will be more than happy to sell you one. I don't doubt that there are retailers out there that sell things at ridiculous prices, but if you haven't been into an electronics store lately - last time I was there, there were a dozen PC's for sale in there that are way better than mine, for less than the price you saw my monitor for sale for - not even on sale - and of course, there is no shipping and handling.

Also, I was in Circuit City the other day and saw what looked like my monitor for sale in there for $80, and thought to myself, "that's not too bad, but sort of a rip-off if you buy the monitor seperate though."

I'm glad I got a good deal. :cheese: It's not a good feeling to find out you have been ripped off and you paid too much for your hardware. Maybe that is why you are so angry with me because you paid way too much for your hardware?

People usually associate flat screen with LCD? That's a sweeping generalization. A flat screen means a flat screen. It either specifies LCD or CRT, and if it doesn't say, then you need to find out more info about what you are buying. Do you buy anything without knowing what you are buying?

As for shipping, I didn't pay any money for shipping since I bought it in a store, and the monitor came with my ****ing computer, as part of the $200 price, as I've said already many times. Arguing with you is like arguing with someone who sticks their fingers in their ears and says "lalalalala I can't hear you!"

When I think of flat screen, I think of a flat screen. There are flat screen TV's, monitors, and LCD monitors. I own 2 flat screen CRT monitors. My other one is a Samsung Dynaflat. I don't find it misleading when they say 17" flat-screen monitor. It means just that - it's a flat screen 17" monitor, and you can look at the damned picture and tell it's not LCD, if the fact that they say 17" CRT monitor doesn't clue you in. It's funny that you would call anything misleading while defending Fony, er - Sony.

NEARLY EVERY PC brand is 'notorious' for being faulty. My sister (who owns a nearly identical model as me) and I both have an eMachines (she bought hers the year before me), and both of ours works perfectly. My brother had an older one from about 8 years ago and just finally retired it recently since it is ancient technology. We never had any issues with the hardware being faulty. Yes, hardware fails no matter what brand you buy though. I'm very happy with mine, so I don't really care if people say emachines sucks.

As for orange text of eMachines being legendary service / reliablility or whatever, that's just a PR statement. Personally I've heard of not so glorious reviews about eMachines, so has RevisedSoul apparently.
AIM, YOU ARE BEING ****ING RIDICULOUS.
EMachines has earned legendary status for delivering the best combination of economy and performance in the industry.
Here is what it says. You are killing me how much of a Hypocrite and and troll you are being, when you got all bent out of shape at Double_blade, saying, "Can't you read?" , "maybe you can't read?". How can you say that when you can't seem to read yourself? I even put it in orange for you, so as to bring attention to it, so you would read it and realize that "the best combination of economy and performance" might explain why the computer (with the features mine has) was such a good deal.

It says right there, I put it in bold for you, "earned legendary status for delivering the best combination of economy and performance", it never claimed to have "legendary service and reliability"

Why argue that it's not true if YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IT SAYS. You are a TROLL, and have gone far beyond pissing me off. Arguing ridiculous details like how much I paid for my monitor. The whole point of me even mentioning my PC is that people claim consoles run better than PCs, and are a much better price, but when you turn all of the graphics options up on your PC way past what a console could even do anyway, is that a fair comparison? HELL No. Besides, a console doesn't come with a monitor any ****ing way.

Am I on trial here? Being interrogated? I never said I have never made any mistakes, or never misquoted, or never made any errors, or anything like that. I never claimed to be a robot. I am a human. I said "I have never lied on Half-Life2.net" Lying, by it's nature is intentional. Making a mistake is not intentional, and therefore is not lying. You should know exactly what lying is by now, being a Sony fan yourself.

I've already explained it once, but I will explain it again just for you, just this one time, since I REALLY don't like to be called a liar.

In the thread you are referring to, I did a search on google, and under the search term "quake wars images" is where I got the images, then I did a search for "battlefield 2 images" and that is where I got the image. I saw a pre-release trailer of BF2 and it looked fukin stupid, so I had never actually seen BF2 screenshots. So when he said "BF2 looks better than quake wars" I was like WTF? HOw can this be? So, I did a search to see the battlefield 2 screenshots, and the first one that came up I posted here and said, "I don't agree." It looked like shit. You can understand how I made the mistake. Turns out one of the Quake Wars images was actually from Quake 4? I don't know, you see, I don't own that game either, and haven't really looked at many screenshots of it. Someone quickly corrected the mistake, and I apologized, and explicitly said "I won't be using Google image search to prove a point anymore"

Isn't it quite ironic that he was the one actively doing a smear campaign against Sony on whoevers behalf?
I know Double_blade, he likes to mock everything. I knew what he meant. I guess you are saying that I stuck up for him since he is bashing Sony and I hate Sony? Who cares? I don't need to generate anything to go against Sony. If they wouldn't generate their own bad publicity, I wouldn't have any reason to dislike them really. I've never hidden the fact that I think Sony sucks. I can't control what he says or how he feels. I didn't create any of the Sony bashing threads here, they are from your comrades.

Yes his posts were obvious, obvious in the sense that he was saying it literally. As in go buy it at that date where he thought it was to be released while not realizing it's already past Spring himself!
I don't think that you believe that. I have even explained it for you, and it's still over your head. All I can say is, just forget it.

edit: You say he understood me, then why does he believe that I said Sony will cut price at launch when I've said in THREE straight posts that they will likely cut it a year later?
I'm not here to argue for him, it's only that I understood his joke.

Since a few people have speculated that Sony might cut price after the first year, I've heard from a credible industry source that Sony may not be able to cut the cost until the 2nd sales year since they are already taking such a loss, and if they can't, they pretty much guaranteed to be last place in sales between the 3 consoles.

To me, Sony is just like one long, tremendously misleading Call of Duty: Big Red One commercial, and I feel sorry for all the victims who are tricked by things like this.

I'm not going to bother quoting to that wall of text, seeing that you chose to ignore everything I've said (along with others) this is not going to be worth my time. Call me a troll, ignore me, make false claims about my situations or whatever the f**k else makes you happy. I did have a good chuckle skimming through your post though, I had no idea or intention of drawing such a response from you but I'd recommending following your own advice.

I don't think I made any claims about your situations - false or otherwise.

I didn't ignore what you said, it's that I can't answer for Double_blade, he is a separate entity. If I could spawn him here, I would. Spawn monster_demon_double_blade

Thanks.

I'm glad you agree we should drop it. It wasn't worth my time either, except that I feel I had to clear my name, which is important to me.

Hopefully, nobody else says one more thing about my monitor, or I'm going to smash it. :cheese:

SINCE WHEN WERE YOU UNBANNED D: D: D:

Yeah. I haven't touched my PS2 since I built my latest PC.

When you compare console to computer, the extra bucks go a LONG WAY.

You get what you pay for, eh?

That's a good question... mods must've slipped up somewhere

I personally hadn't played a console for a while til the other day because this girl i was hanging out with wanted to play Soul Calibur 3. Before that I've been playing PC almost exclusively. Yeah, a good computer sure is nice.
