Sony's E3 2006 conference (embarrassing)

RIDGE RACER

Never gets old.

CRAP BATTLE!

Offtopic but is that guy American? Or a japanese native? His english is great if the latter.

I remember laughing at it, i knew then they wouldn't live up to there promises as soon as they were being nice to Europe. So so embarrassing.

The first time I saw this was a couple weeks ago, I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe. D:

I remember watching that and posting on the forums. The show started really late like an hour at least. Then they put on some classic hit music and everybody was jamming out to that. Then the show started and they introduced that GT guy and I remember thinking "ohh man, I can't understand a word this guy is saying". They showed the clip and I was just like "it's taken them years to do that?!!?" How did it go from this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOPO7swloAI&feature=related
To that?!??! Everything went downhill from there. I also really remember them having a special person who knew how to use the controller which meant that it wasn't user friendly. The guy sucked at flying and he was going all over the place if you watch him waving the controller all over the place.

The video is hilarious but the whole point behind it is just stupid. Oh the PS3 must suck because of a few humorous presentations. Oh look we can cut to random out-of-context video clips that have nothing to do with eachother to make it look like Sony is stupid. Good for you, you could do the same bullshit with anything. Why don't they? Because nobody cares. It doesn't mean shit, it's just fun to laugh at.

The crab thing has always annoyed me too. He said BASED on actual battles. This doesn't mean it's supposed to be an exact replica of the battle. We're talking video games here folks, they're supposed to be fun, creative, and original.

a giant crab is none of those

That's an open-ended, opinionated statement to make, but it's irrelevant to the point I was trying to make anyway.

The point was that while they said they arnt interested in gimmicks, they're very interested in gimmicks, such as "fantastic innovation" thats a wii rip-off controller that is incredibly unwieldy. While they said they dont think with conventional thinking, they only show games with the same gameplay we saw 10 years ago. New features include "real time weapon change" and "attacking weakpoints"!

The point was that what they said they were doing, and what they were actually doing, were very different things. Also keep in mind this was made almost 2 years go.

QFT! God i lol'd at that. He was playing Warhawk or sumit, he looked spastic.

Talk about some epic G-force barrel rolls! Can't even aim straight it's so bad.

My non-gaming sis would love sixaxis. Everytime she played a racing game on my ps2 she would turn the controller as if doing it would turn the car too haha looked exactly like this guy.

A couple weeks? You should've had seen it LIVE. :cat:

Jump to 9:30, that's when the fun starts.
*snip*

I really don't want that much tv anymore, and I wasn't really interested in the "next gen" consoles at that particular time, but recently I've gotten a Xbox 360 and now I'm all ears.

Once again, splicing video footage from different things. In the weapon switching thing he must have been talking about new features from the previous game in the line, not necessarily new features to gaming, which is what clever video editing would have you assume.

And if that's what you're going to consider a gimmick, might as well call the Wiimote, DS touchscreen, etc. all gimmicks. In fact, Ninendo would probably be the most gimmicky of all video game companies, as I've seen countless games with unnecessary involvement of the touchscreen to do random things, just to say it's a true DS game.

When the video was made is irrelevant to my point, I'm not trying to defend the PS3 or Sony, merely attempting to douse the needless hate that seems to be generated partly from a stupid video.

Well...yeah.

It was mostly pointing out at how they hyped it up and made it sound so amazing but it really didn't deliver. The PS3 only sounded good. That is why it was the biggest failure of the year.

Where in Japanese history is there a freeking crab battle?

I LOL'd so hard at that part.

"This game is based on actual battles that took place in Japan...So here we have this giant crab"

I understand that. Like I said, by no means am I saying Sony didn't **** up anything. I'm just pointing out the fallacies of this video.

Did you read the words you quoted? Do you know what the word BASED means? I repeat, developers are allowed to put new elements into a game, be it completely fictional or impossible, that's what makes it fun. BASED means the basic idea, setting, etc. or any combination is the premise of the event.

Let me give you an example... If I made a game where London was infested with zombies, I could say the game is based in London. No, it doesn't mean London actually has zombies in real life, but the game is BASED in London, so you can expect elements of london in the freaking game.

Now I actually know where the "crab" and "attack weak point for massive damage" meme came from.

Loved it : D

Double quoting because I can. The amount of kiddies on the Internet who lack reading comprehension skills still amazes me.

For a game that supposively based on actual historical non-fictional battles then gets turned into a fictional game. No history there.

It's Sony themselves that made them look stupid in front of an entire audience.

So? Who said it had to retain anything historical? One way or another it's still based on said battles. The crab battle scene makes Sony look silly because people chose to take what they said far too literally.

"So here's this giant enemy crab."
"OMG THERE WAS NONE."

So just because they introduce fictional elements, there is NO history? Where does it poof away to? Please reread my TWO posts and example until you get it.

You missed the point then. The video wasnt making fun of them for having gimmicky features, it was making fun of them for saying and I quote directly... "and we're certainly not interested in gimmicks." and then showing several of their gimmicks. The video isnt bashing the PS3, its making fun of sony for saying one thing, and doing another.

it was making fun of them for saying and I quote directly... "and we're certainly not interested in gimmicks." and then showing several of their gimmicks.
But that chain of events never actually happened like that. Once again, the video editing makes it look dumber than it is.

And it also depends on what you mean by gimmick. I wouldn't consider a mode of controlling a game to be a gimmick in the slightest. It matters completely and it's pretty exciting. Just like the Wii-mote or DS touchpad. Just because it's different and grabs your attention doesn't mean it's a gimmick. A gimmick is some random needless feature put into a game SOLELY for the purpose of people saying "man I'd like to try that"

It doesnt matter if the video is played back out of sequence. That doesnt change the fact that he said one thing, and they did the opposite.

A gimmick is some random needless feature put into a game SOLELY for the purpose of people saying "man I'd like to try that"

Like using your PSP as a rear view mirror that you have to hold up while playing?

I'll just fall back to the previous statement that I bet similar inconsistancies are performed by other companies like Nintendo or Microsoft, but nobody likes to hate those companies as much because they can afford their systems.

These presentations are 50 percent marketing bullshit anyway. Companies say bullshit all the time without truly meaning it.
