...but the answer is kinda urgent.

it's like this, you know that steam installer that updated half life and installed counter strike 1.6? the one with 300+mb's? well, i downloaded it and installed it here, no problem so far. i burned the installer and gave it to a friend of mine, the thing is, he doesnt have any game recognized in the "my games" list. i remember going through some kind of setup were steam asked were my games were so he would recognize them, but i dont remember how i got to that setup. what im asking is that someone with a better memory than mine could post like a walktrough here so i can help my friend and frag him like hell

PS- do we need an older version of counter strike to update to 1.6 with this installer or does the installer carry the full counter strike 1.6?

i hope i made my self clear

The installer contains the full 1.6. It pointed to previous versions on your drive get a CD key from your halflife install. Without halflife or an old copy of CS on his machine you'll need a valid cd key for counter-strike or halflife to play 1.6. Has he purchased the game?

yes, he has half life original. but he doesnt have any older cs or anything, i think he missed the steam setup and didnt point were the games are, i just dont know were he must go now to do it (thankz so far :))

EDIT-> if he doesnt hav an older CS he needs a CS cd key to play 1.6? were the hell does he get that????

One CD key from either CS, DOD, OpFor or HL will be more than sufficient.

ok, now all i need to know, is how he can tell steam he as those games installed. he says he doesnt have even 1 game in the my games list, and his steam folder is 4mb's large while mine is almost 1gig!!

Make sure the GCFs are under Steam\SteamApps, not Steam\SteamApps\<e-mail>.

from what he told me, i got the felling that it didnt install CS at all, just Steam. maybe a reinstall will do the trick
gonna try it myself

Right, just tell him to double-click CS in the Steam Games list. Steam itself should walk him through getting it installed.

As long as he's on Broadband it should be ok.
