I consider half-life a gaming "delicasy", and is a game/series that I will always love. However, there is one other game close to this spot: SHadow of the Colossus. I really, really like that game. Sure, there isn't a memorable cast like in half-life, but it is a game that is, in my opinion, more than a game. I just want to see(and hope) that some other peeps agree with me that it is one of the best video games ever. (Along with half-life and portal.:E)

I've never played it actually. I heard it's really good but I was never interested in it nor its predescessor ico. :|

Never heard of it, it's never been mentioned here before.
Could you explain in your own words to us here at Hl2.net
what the game is about, the story, the game play, and why it's good.
And don't make it too short, I want to hear it straight
from you.

Jeez! It's actually a very popular ps2 game. YOu play as an unnamed person simply called the Wanderer, and a girl(unknown if related to you) was sacrificed by her clan. YOu were involved in the killing, and have plenty of guilt. There is a legend that the great banished souls called the Dormin, who live in a forbidden land, can reanimate the dead for a price. You travel there with your horse Agro and the girl's corpse, with a sword that was stolen from your clan. THe Dormin say they'll bring her back, if you destroy the 16 statues in the room. HOwever, each statue is invulnerable, and can only be destroyed by killing the giant creature it symbolizes in the lands. YOu are only armed with your sword and bow/arrows, and your transport with your horse. To kill a colossus, you must climb it and destroy it's weak spots. However, they can't all be simply climbed. THe battles are really epic, as some fly and others swim deep below the surface. Hell, one is the like a TRemor in the sand!! THere are no sidestories, and the only other life are lizards, birds, tortoises, etc., but that adds to the feeling of being alone. It's very epic and had a neat ending twist. It also has a very sad ending.

No offense but it sounds kind of stupid.
Can you dual wield in the game? How about the AI of the creatures,
do they take cover, and do they communicate?

Also tell me more about the looks, the music, the feeling you got from
that game. Like describe a scene or a particular thing that happened.
And please do it in detail, I mean if the game has left such a good
impression on you, it must have invoked a lot of feelings.

Okay. I'm not too good at describing. I'll tell about one colossus: Avion. It is alarge hawk-like one. YOu have to shoot it with a few arrows to get his attention. It will swoop down at you, where you can grab hold of a small patch of fur on it's right wing. YOu must move across it, being carful of wind and quick turns, and stab at it's 3 weakesr points: ENd of left wing, end of right wing, then the end of it's tail. It's actually one of the easiest, but It's hard because you can only hold onto a colossus when it's vertical/upsidedown for a certain amount of time before your grip meter gives away. TO get more weapons, you can beat the given times on time-attack mode. By the way, just check youtube for some of the coossus fights. Some are about the size of a truck, while a few are as tall as a skyscraper. THe music is composed by some japanese orchestra, the forbidden lands are beautiful, be it deserts, forests, beaches. ANd ign.com gave it a 9.7. EAch colossus is a puzzle itself, too.

That sound pretty good. But I don't know man. Like isn't 16
enemies to few? And how about their AI, I want AI that takes
cover when they shoot and then come out to shoot at you.

Do you have any more weapons then a swords and crossbow, can you
cast spells? How many combo's can you pull off.

Also how is the multilayer, like does it have a friends list.

And tell me more about cool stuff in the game. I don't trust
reviews, they always give bad games good reviews and good games
bad reviews, Like for example madden 2007 was hands down the best
game of 2007, yet they give bioshock a better review. That pissed
me off to no end, that game sucks so much ass. Like everything is
dark, you can't even see your enemies. And the guns aren't
realistic at all, the Ak didn't sound like an Ak at all.
You could only hold one gun at a time.

Let me put it this way: 16 boss fights. It's a unique game, only singleplayer, but it is still very good. THere are hundreds of youtube videos showing how fast people can kill off specific colossi. YOu always start out in the center of the lands, and the light reflecting off your sword guides you to the colossus. YOu then travel there, and kill off the golem that lives there. Some are peaceful and ignore you, others are afraid and evade. Some are violent and attack on sight. Each is in the form of an animal or being, and are made of earth itself(snad, rick, grass, dirt). The scale of each one is breathtaking, and some are tricky to find out how to climb.(for example, one can crawl the wals of the large chamber. YOu must fire arrows at his legs to make him plummet below. He lands on his back, and his chest is where his weak spotis. However, once he turns over, you are basically crushed to death under it's massive weight. That is, unless you escape in time. It may not sound like much, but it is very good. The only issues are camera and ,maybe, controls.
Oh, and about bioshock, the only bad part was the end. PLus, that wasn't an ak...

What the..
I made a thread on this game a long while ago. :(
/me is sad
And I spelled the name out in the thread title.
/uses search to find

It looks like you're writing in verse. <3

Also the graphics look really lame. It doesn't have any bump mapping,
no normal mapping. It doesn't even have parallex shadow tachyon
displacement surface texturing. Also the shadows look like stencil shadows. And I bet it's still using directx9.
Just compare it to crysis

sorry if you already made a topic for this, but my computer sucks ass. I was basically stuck on the page due to a frequent "cannot find page, please refresh" page. YOu know, the page that you want the creator of to burn in hell. About the AK, I"m pretty sure that it was just an old-fashioned thompson. BUt i suck about guns, so what i'm describing is probably the same thing that you're describing...:(

Jesus, I vote we all speak in lyric form
Grey Fox has me thinking like him
Shadows of the Colossus is a great game
It's just bosh rush after bosh rush
but it's great bosh rush.

Gray Fox, you're either hilarious or dumb as ****. I can't decide which.

It is a wonderful game,
I think it has great qualities,
Cinematic, engaging,
It is a must-buy.

Shadow of the Colossus is a good example of video games as art. Just like ICO. If Ebert had played these games he never would have made his comment.

ignore these buffoons!
welcome to the board

i think we can all agree that Half Life and the rest of the series set the bar for a fantastic gaming experience
unfortunately, i never got a chance to play SOTC before i sold my PS2 :(
at this point, with the exception of GOW2, SOTC is really the only last-gen game that i really really wanna try

No matter how much I play half-life, sotc will always be in my heart.:cheese: And just to let you know, Gray Fox, graphics don't make a game. Story and gamep[lay make a game. If only Ken Levine knew how to end his great story...;(

Ico was kinda bleh to me. I bought it online, but now I have it and it will soon be the only one left in the world.
IT will be worth BILLIONS.

you are right, ico wasn't too good. The glowing white girl kinda freaked me out. How she would chase after a bird she saw on the gound randomly was just strange. She also couldn't walk by herself, which made me want to just push her off one of the castle's bridges...

In any case, if the fact I said we never talked about the game,
the fact that I talked about dual wielding and directx didn't reveal it.
I was kidding, I played ico and colossus.
Colossus was actually the reason I bought the ps2, and I ****ing loved ICO.

Also combineadvisor you seriously have the patience of a colossus,
I would have thrown a hissy fit a long time ago.

Shadow of the Colossus looks really nice
But I shall never play it
Because I don't own a ps2
That is very sad
But my PC
Is all I got

ICO & SoTC are great games, best played on a decent sized TV for added visual glory. I had a good friend bring them to my house when I was in recovery and we collectively played through them over a few days. Top stuff.

sorry for being so late, computer wads acting up again. Yeah, i knd of noticed that you were making crap up. A little too suspicious...

And I hate writing up entire plot paragraphs!!!!!!

So, now tell me about the plot. Just a paragraph or two, please, I'm interested about the game now. :cheese:

Plot: Kill many to save one.

It is by no means as simple as that. SOTC is one of the few games that engender deep philosophical thought and even deeper emotion. One of the most incredible games of all time.

I can say without any hesitation that Shadow of the Colossus is one of my favorite video games of all time. No game has even come to close to its mythic atmosphere. I admit that I have never played the God of War series, but for me, SotC makes you feel like an archetypal ancient warrior, fighting godlike monsters in a long forgotten heroic age. The music and design are unparalleled.

You must battle sixteen great Colossi, all in varying shapes and sizes, and somehow they deliver on the final Colossus and make him the most thrilling and epic enemy of all. As VictimofScience said, the game has next to no dialogue, but it brings out intense emotion and thinking.

I can however, give you a brief plot summary.

The hero (he is never clearly named, most call him Wander or the Wanderer) rides to the Forbidden Land, where he strikes a deal with the chthonic god Dormin. The Wanderer's love, Mono, has recently died, and Dormin promises to restore her to life if the Wanderer will hunt down and destroy the sixteen Colossi.

At once simple and deep, the plot echoes the Twelve Labors of Hercules or other Greek myths. I love it and would recommend it to anyone.

EDIT: The Forbidden Land, apart from the Colossi, is largely desolate, with minimal ecology (a few lizards, hawks, etc.) Your only companion is your riding horse Agro (possibly Argo, the Wanderer pronounces it strangely), one of the best animated horses in game history. You develop a strong attachement to him throughout the game, and he is invaluable in many fights, particularly Phalanx Traildrifter (who was the most ethereally beautiful and majestic colossi I thought.)

yes shadow of the colossus is a game that proof that games dont have to be much like games to be good

I mean cuz if you hear the ame mechanics and such it wouldnt atracted your attention so much
