Damn... so who has this game? I have it, and I'm really enjoying it. The character creation is so much better than part III. It's real easy to make awesome looking male characters now, when before I had trouble and so I mostly made female characters.

Has anybody descended down the tower past level 15? I got to level 15, I was doing super awesome, both guys left... kicking the ass out of that little bear-cat bitch, and all of a sudden time ran out. Like, wtf... I was killing her FAST and time ran out... and to do it all again I have to start all the way from the beginning.

Bullshit.

We have almost all the equipment unlocked though... and spent 100 gamer points to unlock what was there which were some pretty cool helms from the previous games.

The Apprentice is ****ing bullshit in Arcade. Yoda's dive attack, or blocking, constant kicking and throwing are the only possible way to defeat him.

Yeah I hear people say that Apprentice is very powerful... but that yoda is broken to the point that people don't want others to play as him because you can't grab him and shit.

I wish there was a way we could host our custom characters online in a 3D screenshot form to show other people who don't have the game.

All my characters are badass looking!

Im maining yoshimitsu online and KICKING ASS.

Gamertag is JakklesTheDark if any of ya want to play.

As for the apprentice, yeah he's bullshit but only because you have to use yoda to fight him. Against anyone else though you can take him down pretty easily, and Yoda being immune to being grabbed is balanced out by the fact that he moves like a turtle and nearly all his moves involve him jumping making him an incredibly easy target.

Everyone always chooses kilik to be cheap.

Yeah I hear that a lot... that Kalik and Talim are two people that people love to use to be cheap.

I've loved Talim since I first started playing Soul Calibur though. I just don't use her a ton.

I only played a Talim player once online but he knew what the hell he was doing, no cheap tactics, but yeah Kilik is usually the cheap character.

So yeah Yoshimitsu I think was designed to piss people off. All of his moves either stun you, send you flying, or look completely useless yet do hilarious damage. Usually reactions at the end of matches are:

"**** YOU FAG WHO USES YOSHIMITSU HUH ****** MORE LIKE YOSHIGAY YEAH **** YOU CHEAPASS BITCH"

I have this :)

Really enjoying it. It is the first soul caliber I have bought as genearly its somthing that housemates or friends have had in the past so there has been no need to buy a copy.

Being a little bit of a noobish and not really knowing to many combos I generaly do a little bashing, but playing as Yoshimitsu its a little annoying at time as I seem to find the suiside combo quite often! :'(

Other then that I really enjoy siegfried and mitsorogie (sp?)

I'll be up for some online gaming but if you guys are from the US it will be abit of a lag fest :(

So I hear noobs can get away with mindless button bashing... is that true? I want there to be skill involved liek timing of the moves and block/parry attacks

Skill certainly is a heavy factor in the game, but likewise since you only have a certain number of buttons to press(it's a console game after all), somebody randomly mashing the buttons will still be able to afford a modicum of success. But against a talented opponent he would pretty much always lose.

I wanna try before I buy, if only they released a demo. How long is the singe player campaign?

Ehh... I wouldn't call it a campaign at all. It's short, fairly uninspired. I never have liked the story or singleplayer modes for these fighting games like this. It's a fantastic game for when you have friends or family around who like to play these types of games, as it is in my family.

If you want to try before you buy... either borrow it from a friend who has it, or rent it first.

Short, very short.

Arcade has about 8 stages I think, then you have a story mode with about 4 stages which is far too easy, then the tower mode, which is probably the longest lasting around an hour.

I was disappointed I spend ?40 on this on the strength of the TV ad.

I need a decent fighter until SF4 comes out, cant fight SF Anniversay Edition anywahere... would love to try SF: Third Strike

The tower took me frigging ages :( I been playing it for 2 days and only got 1/2 way through so far.

The thing is with these kind of games is the single player is genearly pretty shoddy, some kind of "story" which never makes sence and a quick arcade mode to get a quick game.

The real fun comes with gatherings of friends. They are really great for letting everyone have a go and throwing the controler from one player to another. Everyone getting excited over battles and ending up getting a nemisis you feel you have to beat when your turn comes around :)

IMHO there is enough there on the single player frout to keep me entitained but the reason I got the ganme was to play with friends.

Also,

How do you unlock the aprentis?

Wicked,

Just did a google search and a ton of results came up. Probly should of done that before asking here.

Yeah, might give you a tough time since you have to use yoda to beat him and yoda is kind of useless D:

And speaking of useless poor Rock. I remember him being one of my favorite characters in Soul Blade, now he's one of the most useless ever. Astaroth does everything he can and better

I call complete bullshit if you say you got through the tower in an hour.

That's physically impossible.

Yeah what Raz said. Hell if you're good the first 20-30 floors should take you an hour atleast. After that the difficulty ramps up to SC3 stupidity.

Been farming gold to buy the rest of the weapons. Already bought all the equipment.

Takes me 6 minutes to beat story mode on normal. Consistently, for 16000 each time. I don't know of a better way to make money so I've been doing that.

Can get S mode on Hard too, but takes a bit longer and isn't quite as worth it.

The player models look insane from the TV ad.

What new gameplay modes have been added since the first game? I remember going Hwang all the time in that one.

The Modes are:

Tower of Souls - Just another take on the whole mission mode they've had from the past games, this time ascending a tower. Each floor has a clue so you can complete it under a certain condition to unlock armor and accesories for the create-a-character mode.

Story - Just 4 stages against some normal characters and a bunch of pre-created ones ending with a boss fight against either Algol (new character), Nightmare, or Siegfried depending on the characters allignment.

Arcade - Same as the other games. 8 Stages of fighting.

Online you can do normal battles, or you can play Special Battles which take into account the effects of weapon damage and armor you've bought.

I like the battles like you fight online and stuff... you have a number of rounds, and throughout the rounds your armor can be destroyed and stuff... so by the end of the battle you might be in your underwear. lol

I played a little bit of multiplayer, and it seems to be real smooth on xbox live.

I dont quite get how the uber specials work where your supposed to kill people straight out. I have had it so my soul gage is flashing blue and theirs is flashing read but from there I canny do anything. From looking through the manual I should press LB to make this mofo work :(

When their gauge is flashing red you keep hitting them hoping they keep on blocking. Eventually the gauge should shatter after which you have about a second to hit LB.

I'm on floor 52 to whatever I think it is... where I have to kill like 12 guys with one guy. The four lizardmen are a ****ing bitch... everybody else before that are easy for me.

The funniest characters I've seen in online

Iron Chef

Every single Power Rangers

Dog the Bounty Hunter

Crocodile Dundee

Mussolini

Barack Obama

John Mcain

Hillary Cliton

cool characters i've seen:

The Joker - complete with pink suit, makeup and knives

Leonidas from 300 - overly buff, skimpy undies and a cape. think he was using Hilde's style/weapons

I've seen somebody make a stupid character called Krazy Kool K. I imagine it was cut off and he intended the K to actually be something, but... he looked like a hooded KKK member.

Blegh.

Critical Finishes in this game are absurd... You just knock off a piece of armor and press a button bound to A+B+G+K right away and it's auto-GG.

ya but from what i've seen, it doesn't happen very often
you practically have to block the entire battle to have your soul gauge break

Yeah, was about to say, if a piece of armor flies off you're still fine, but if you block damn near the entire match then your soul gauge is going down quick

I guess the way my friends and I play is more on the defensive side, but it still comes up even when we're trying to be offensive because somebody can get trapped in a corner and it's really easy to do it when you're a fast char against a slow char.

The game has a habit of giving me people I played like 2 times in a row. Which is great if I beat them both times because then I get angry messages :D

Man the apprentice guy is a ****ing dick, I hate fighting him.

Every other character I have a really good fight, and stand a good chance of winning againt but that is the only bastard that kills me over and over and over again. I keep turning off the arcade mode because I get bored of loosing to him. Whats the best way to smash his dick head face

I liked 1up's description of the Apprentice as an "all-blocking, all-dodging, supercombo, jerk-a-thon of a character." I don't have too much trouble beating him with Yoshiitsu though.

ya i had trouble beating him with Yoda in arcade mode
i find it's best to stay defensive against him; block lots and repel/counter as much as you can
and don't be afraid to take cheap shots at em!
