Ok, I have an SBL sitting next to me, and I need to know if installing it would show any performance and/or sound quality increase over my onboard sound (mobo in sig).

Dont think that you will see a performance boost but it should better than the onboard sound you are using just now. I found that I got alot of interference from onboard sound and when I switched to my audigy2 zs, it got rid of the problem.

accutlly not using onboard can add a performance boost since onboard uses partial cpu

I was thinking more about hardware sound in games etc like eax, but you are right, it does free up the cpu.

I should note that i'm talking about one of the OLD SBLs, like from 2001.

Still any better?

I have an old SB Live 24bit. You can tell between the two, especially in games (you'll be surprised how much more you hear).

Don't think there is a difference in how old it is. Still it would do more of the sound processing than the onboard chip would.

Everytime I'm listening to music and I load a page in FF, the song skips. Is this being caused by my onboard chip? Would a sound card fix that?

put it in, youll end up noticing a difference. You could always go back to onboard if you must.

i would think its the cpu load that causes that

audigy 2 zs is a great card, especially for the money
