Alright, I think I've got a problem that'll stump all you nerds out there. Just the other day one of my fans decided to stop working and the power supply overheated and basically blew up on me. Well I changed the power supply and turned the computer on and everything seemed to be working fine except for the fact that I wasn't getting any sound. Ok so my sound card blew out right? Well here's the kicker, I can still record through my microphone. "So get a new sound card" some of you are probably saying at this point, well I've changed out the sound card and oddly enough the problem still remains, the mic works but the speakers don't. I've tried changing the PCI slots, I've used different speakers, still nothing. Someone help me out, PLEASE!!!!

Hmm sounds like a strange problem. These are just some basic questions i have for ya about it.
You've tried changing the PCI slots and sound card, so have you reinstalled the drivers for each one? And have you uninstalled the drivers for the original sound card? The original drivers could be hogging the sound output.
Though if you've done all that, maybe something happened to the mother board? It's a strange problem that it would just stop the sound aspect from working, but i have heard stranger about blown parts of mobos. Though don't go rush out and buy a new motherboard, just an idea. Also maybe the blow out skrewed up something on your hard drive? It doesn't sound like the issue is the card or the speakers at all since you've trouble shot them to death and determined it wasn't that.

A word of advice on upgrading your mobo now though, in about 3-6 months companies are going to start comming out with the BTX boards, which are going to both add new features if you want top of the line, and drive down the prices of the ATX boards, so if you want to wait you could get either something that'll be more efficent or cheeper.
Hopefully someone else will have a better idea, this is all i have so far. The only two issues it could be are the mobo or the hard drive at this point, since you've figured out it's not the card itself. i guess it COULD be the processor, but that's a long shot, usally if a processor goes bad the whole thing goes bad, and it usally doesn't give these kinda issues.

Alright, this is wierd. I get feedback from the speaker, almost like it's trying to play sound or it's sending out some kind of wierd signal or something. It's been happening since the sound went out, I just completely forgot about it.

Did you put in a really weak PSU? I'm still putting my bets on something blowing out on the mother board or something corrupted in the OS.

So I usually keep my computer on my wooden desk. After I had replaced the power supply I put the computer on the ground. When I went to plug the speakers back in the computer was on and I think I touched the back end with the plug. I've got a feeling this cause a short because it killed my computer and I had to actually restart the whole thing. I did the same thing with the other card. Any idea if this could've cause the problem?

Update: STILL NO SOUND!!! :frown:
At this point I have done all of the following, replaced sound cards (none of them are blown), changed PCI slots, checked the bios, installed and reinstalled the drivers than uninstalled them and reinstalled them again, checked the volume on the computer, changed speakers many times, and a voodoo dance. hell I've even tried singing to it and that didn't work. Right now the only two options that I can think of is getting a new motherboard or formatting the hard drive. Unless someone has a better idea I'll report back with what happens soon.
Also, this is where it gets a little wierd. I can hear a type of static coming from the speakers like it's trying to output a sound. Not like a constant static. In fact it only happens whenever I change the volume on the speakers, like a quick poof or something. What's wierd though is I have disabled the sound card and it still does this.
