Sound Card inputs

I have recently damaged the mic input in my sound card by accident, and I wanted to know if it is possible to use the line-in input as a mic input?
I know that there are some frequency and volume differences between the two, so I would like to know how to make it work.

I think theres away because i swapped the microphone input a short while ago since my nForce decided it would be good for my T6700 speakers. I could have sworn I did, but since i have no powerful controls on the control panel, your only choice is a wizard, if it has one.

The problem is, that my soundcard is a crappy onboard one, so it has no controls (apart from simple volume control) of it's own. So the only way is maybe an external program... and that's what i'm looking for...
