Can anyone suggest a free sound editing program where you can merge sound files and stuff? Thanks

cool edit... it has a 30 day trial. best program evar. but whatever you do dont crack it because thats naughty and illegal and the police will come and kick your ass and steal ur wallet.

If you just want to merge files and do very basic sound editing, try Windows Sound Recorder...

Well... *brushes off shoulders* I do music tech, and we, and nearly all proffessional recording studios use a program called 'Cubase'. It costs around £1000 but I have it... so go figure.

It is however the bizniz

try 'audacity' - basic but gets the easy simple jobs done.

Use Audacity. It's free and can merge mp3s or whatever else.

whenever I use audacity, it always generates a huge file size! for instance, a 10 s sound clip is 3 mb. that's the only problem I have with it - how can I fix it? setting down quality doesn't help much.

You mean when you save the finished file?

Make sure it isn't saving as a .wav or something, because they will be huge. Converting a 3mb .mp3 to .wav will be around 40-60mb or something. Just go to File > Export As MP3 and it should be a small file.

I'm no expert with it though.

Ive been using audacity and mixing up tracks and its free so...

i'll try audacity. 30 day trials are no fun.

thanks
