;( Everytime i play HL2 the sound's all staticky and fuzzy and it sometimes skips. I tried installing the latest driver for my sound blaster live sound card, so while it was installing it, a box popped up saying that the installation coudnl't find a sound blaster card in the system. I know the card is installed and everything. What can i do? Thankss

Do you have an integrated/onboard sound card? Maybe it's getting confused there. I would try finding the onboard/integrated and disable it in the hardware manager. Then double-check to see if your SBL is detected, if not take it out, and reinstall it phsyically.

Hey thanks freyar. I had an integrated card installed. I uninstalled it and yes, its working now. thanks again man

No problem, For future reference:

When you install a new sound card, disable the onboard card if that's the one you were previously using.

I have a wierd sound problem and thought I'd put it in here rather then start a new thread. When I first installed HL2 I got fuzzy sounds until I updated my drivers and played around with the speaker settings(in-game) HL2 sounds great but when I play CoD or any other game for that matter I can't hear anything that is directly behind me.

It's very strange......I have my speaker settings in the control panel set to "desktop stereo speakers" but if I play HL2 it will be fuzzy until I set the in-game speaker settings to 4 speakers(I use headphones). If I change the in-game settings it will change the settings in my control panel automatically (eg.) set in-game settings to headphones>>>>changes control panel settings to headphones.

I'm assuming that even though I have my speaker settings set at 2 speakers my soundcard(Audigy) keeps thinking I have it set on Quadraphonic speakers so it doesn't play sounds that are deteced as rear speaker sounds. Worked fine until I installed HL2 and now the only game that the sound works correctly on is HL2.

I know this is a really screwed up problem, just wondering if anyone else out threre has a similar problem or if anyone has an idea on what I can do to fix it.

Thanx for reading :)

PS: I have tried changing my speaker settings in the control panel to headphones and I still don't hear anything directly behind me. I have now become a liability to my CoD team during matches for this and really wanna fix it.....Please help

Have you tried returning your Half Life 2 speaker settings to what you want while playing something else... This seems very odd, and should be forewarded to the support team.

Another sound problem:
In Half Life 2 and CS:S after about 10-15 min. of playing, the sound just cuts out, and won't work again untill I restart my computer. It's very annoying. Anything I can do?

Overheating?

What sound card are you using...?

Make sure that your sound card is pushed firmly into the slot (assuming you aren't using an integrated/onboard)

Nvidia nForce

What do I do to stop overheating, though that might not be it as its ONLY half life 2
