im doing a bit of research on the sound in hl2, and I was wondering what you guys thought of the sound in hl2. :dork:

Any interesting uses of sound you found throughout the game, what did you think of the sound in general. good or bad?... compared to other games how did hl2 do.

thanks

i think the sound is excellent in HL2!(and i think it helped make HL1 so good too)

Yea the sound is great, in particular the grenades exploding at distances where really good.

Agreed x10. I particularly loved HL1's alien sounds (tentacles' guttural sounds, bullsquid death wail, headcrab shrieks, etc.). HL2 continues the tradition of memorable sounds (particularly the scanners, combine radio chatter and flatlining, etc.).

the sounds would be great if it didn;t stutter as much

cool stuff guys, I agree with you that the sound was superb and very convincing(even if it was stuttering :p). I liked the combine radio chatter, when the lady says something like "unit 6 down at sector 5, send reinforcements" or something similar, that combined with the flatline when you kill a combine was a nice touch. You can tell that valve spent a lot of time on the sound and perfecting it :D

So what do you guys make of the abmient sound, or lack of sound. Especially in ravenholm, when you meet the fatherG fellow, very dramatic, almost like it was in a moive

Also, does anyone know what bands, orchestras or artists were commisions by valve to make the musical sound in hl2?

The sounds, to me, were as amazing as the graphics. Really added to the experience and fun of the game.

No problems with the sounds per se, but now that you mention the music....

I've turned down the music pretty much all the way, when an NPC speaks I can only hear them from the center channel.
