Ok as most of you know the source code for half life 2 was copied by some hackers and has spread around the internet. Now i want to clear a few things up there is no playable version of any part of half life 2 out anyone who says they have played any part are lyeing, mistaken or work for valve etc :dozey: . The code that has been leaked cannont make a working game and is pretty useless to anyone. Im not sure if half life 2 will be delayed because of this sauce code because valve etc are being quite secretive with the release date.

There are rumors that a certain few "elite"(if you could call them that) in the warez world that have the full game, that is 1.32Gib in size. But these are just rumors.

The 1+gb file is real. Whether it contains anything to do with HL2 or not is another question. Under any circumstance do not download anything that looks as though it's the hl2_beta. If not out of respect for Valve, at least for the sensible reason that it'll probably not be anything HL2 related. Gay pr0n!!!

I feel sorry for valve then if the code they spent 5 years developing can’t be used to make a working game.
I wonder what it's purpose is then if not to make a game, perhaps the code makes toast?

Because the source code has been leaked, doesnt mean its usless. People have already started mapping with it and using it to develop cheats.

The guy made a map and is playing around with displacement mapping. There even is a video.

when i said the code cant be used to make a working game i meant that even if and when someone spent 5 years putting un official texture etc together it wont be half life 2 any videos you have seen are crap i mean come on there all unofficial textures theres no models thats hardley half life 2.

Unfortunately, there is a working version of the code out now. It is about 30 mb in size, and is called hl2_Compiled_with_working_maps.rar.

It contains a working executable, and 3 playable "test" maps. The only thing you have to do to "play" the maps is rebind your keys. This compiled version is very hard to navigate, however, mainly becuase you cannot see what you are typing into the console. But alas, it is out there.

That's a big negatory to just about everything you said. Allow me to quote the ever helpful and especially informative rec one of the HL2.net staff:
"The source has already been compiled successfully and can be played, even online."
