Okay, something worries me. Can Source Engine do singleplayer and multiplayer games on one client, or does it have to be two seperate clients, like the Quake 3 engine did?

Because that bothers me that the past two games by Valve (HL2/HL2:DM, HL:S/HL:SDM) have had seperate clients for single/multiplayer.

I don't think it strictly has to, but Valve likes keeping their singleplayer and multiplayer game codebases seperate. Otherwise if say, HL2DM was built into HL2, adding the SLAM would entail adding it to single-player HL2 as well, and there's a risk of breaking it.

Looks like Source can do SP and MP together. CSS with bots is basically SP, and it's the same client as online CSS. It can probably be done.

But I think that keeping the SP and MP parts separate results in a cleaner result. It becomes more maintainable that way.
