Source Engine Error

Source engine error
Okay heres the problem: My half-life2 and half-life2 episode 1 are giving me a error 30 seconds into playing. The error is as follows SOURCE ENGINE ERROR and somthing about directx8 ?????????????? I have directx 9.0c installed so that is not the problem, and i have searched the sorce solution center or whatever u want to call it for like 2 hours and still nothing.

Please help!!!!!!


SPECS: 2.8 GHz pendium d
Geforce 7300 LE graphics card
1 GIG RAM
Sigmatel onboard audio (if that helps any)
250GB HD
19 in Dell flat panel (also if that helps any)

I don't really know much about this error, have you tried rolling back to and older directx, or trying to launch HL2 in dx7/8 mode, you need to put commands into the advanced launching options (search forums for the exact parameter you need to put in).
