Source engine talk, Troika, Boyarski

This is a must buy game on my list. I can't wait 'til it comes out. Good thing about it is you know Valve is going to have to release HL2 before this game, as I'm sure they don't want their engine to be seen in another game first. The release date for Vamp is in June. So hopefully (crosses fingers) we will see an April release after all.

I'm really hoping that come christmastime we might at least get the beginnings of a PR campaign in ordert to pump everyone up for the game. TV ads, magazine articles, an official site maybe, some new shots even...

<sigh>

someday, maybe.

I personally have no doubt that HL2 will in fact be released in April, or possibly even a tid-bit before. I'm not gettin' my hopes up or anythin' like that, but I still do have faith in VALVe unlike SOME people... :monkee: *throws poop*

I'm glad its delayed, my 9800XT isnt shipping to me until the end of January, ATI is backordered to hell.

I've been looking forward to VM since I first heard about it around the time HL2 was announced. It's been on my list! I can't wait until it comes out. Just another great sounding game to buy. I'm also kind of glad that HL2 was delayed, because when it's finally released, the 9800 pro will be a bit cheaper : )

sounds promising. the first vampire was a great game, but fell apart near the end when it got onto modern times, vampire 2 is aimed to address this, and by the looks of it Troika are doing a damn fine job.

That's filled me with dread, I've a 9600XT on order thats not come in yet, turns out 18 other people are waiting at the same place for them too. I was hoping I was joking saying I'd not get it until next year, I've a horrible feeling that'll happen now :(

So much for people worrying about whether or not the source engine will be licensed.

it was pretty obvious that it was. i was pretty sure that it was an engine built to be liciensed.

Alot of people said it wouldn't becuase of the source leak.

Yeah nice graphics and animation the game got. But its a vampires games, whats the big deal with it?. I bet with £100 that from the start to the end of the game you will see only vampires suking Human blood, this is the story.

First, we needed to implement a moodier lighting system that would handle the stark contrasts of nighttime scenes, as well as brightly lit indoor scenes.

That's why the game looks worse than HL2. They re-wrote the lighting.

Some of the screenshots look like they're using Half-Life 1 tech, but then you have screenshots like this one (link) that are stunning. So either this game is going to be a graphical mixed bag or we're seeing screenshots from different periods of developement.

That shot isn't that stunning, I'v seen better from some custom made UT2003 maps (not saying much really), although it's not that bad either. The textures are nice and sharp but there are some discrepancies in the lighting (like the lack of shodows for the telegraph pole and some other objects) and it doesn't seem to be the right scale. It's also just a bit boreing in both a artistic and technicle sense.
