Five leading modifications mark debut of Mods On Steam. Age of Chivalry, D.I.P.R.I.P., Insurgency, Synergy, and Zombie Panic are now available free of charge on Steam.

Valve has been supporting the MOD community since the company's inception, offering updates to the SDK, holding MOD Expos and being the first to bring a MOD to retail with Counter-Strike in November 2000," said Doug Lombardi, vice president of marketing at Valve. "The debut of these MODs on Steam marks the beginning of a new level of support for the MOD community by putting the leading MODs at the finger tips of over 15 million targeted gamers.

the MODs will receive automatic updates just like other games on Steam. Also, these MODs now take advantage of Steamworks, providing stat tracking and tighter integration with the Steam community.[br]

Of course you need a Source Engine game to be able to play these mods, that's why Valve are now offering Half-Life 2: Episode One for just $4.99 "an easy entry into the world of Source MODs".

YAY First Post! Downloading them now! Good work Steam!

Hoorah!

A new version of DIPRIP is out with this! Team-play car-exploding mayhem!

great :D
I just deleted insurgency (had few problems)
and I couldn't download through the site mirrors.

I'm glad that they've done this. It makes the mods feel a much greater part of the game. It feels much more rounded off, and tbh, it's where the mainstream mods belong.

What's with the capitals for 'MOD'? Not every three letter abbreviation is an acronym...

So, are these mods supposed to be fun?

I've only tried AoC and Insurgency, and both have been ten pounds of suck.

Age of Chivalry's pretty fun.
Ins is meh, it's fun when people are working together.
DIPRIP is alright but gets old fast.
Don't know about Synergy, can't be bothered to reinstall Ep1,2, and Lost Coast.
Zombie Panic is probably the best of the bunch.

I just gave Synergy a try. It's confusing, a bit buggy and chaotic, but I can really see some promise there. However it needs to be much harder - one player could just rush through the whole level, dodging incoming fire, and complete it.

I eagerly anticipate the day when I get to play through Half Life 2 with you guys.

Biggest problem with Synergy, for me, is the lack of non-laggy servers.

Set pieces like this work really well and I like how they have intergrated your Steam avatar into the game as a directional thing.

This is a great move that should have happened two+ years ago.

This will basically be my first time playing mods (outside a short stint with Dystopia and playing the Minivera series).

Ok thx VALVe now how do I take the stuff off my steam games list???????

I tried Synergy before it was available on Steam, but I hated it. Everyone would just rush through the level.

I'd rather play through Synergy, which I guess is the real point of the mod, with you people instead of total strangers who, like mentioned ITT, rush through a friggin' map.
So far my initial impressions has been pretty 'meh' - too laggy, getting "client timeout", servers crashing during map load and jackass players.

Yeah co-operation does tend to decrease with more players, it why Left 4 Dead is 4 players only.

It's also why the more defencive set pieces are the best, I haven't played any of their custom maps but I hope there is at least one "defend the base" map.

It also has to do with how easy the enemies are, I read that they were going to make the Steam version harder but it doesn't seem to be.

*snip*

Oh my f*ck, if you can play that level with buddies, I think I'll reinstall the episodes just for this mod. :D!

Yeah, you can play through Half-Life 2 and all of its episodes.

Btw, I had a fairly enjoyable game (even more incredible was that is was with 10 players!) playing Ep2. It was a bit into the game when you have the car with Alyx. Since you only have one everyone jumped onto the car, with me driving of course, and kept falling off. So I had to very carefully turn the car to make a turn and keeping the speed quite low. The lag when turning the car didn't help much either.
Even more amazing was the bit near the train yard in which you need to crash into a wodden gate just before the car engine explodes. A few people had gathered there before we came with the car, since you need it to break the gate, so I put down the pedal to the metal and tried to take it down, but of course a guy ran in the way and got gibbed. Everone was like "Whoa, didn't know you could get gibbed!" and stared at his limbs lying on the ground spraying blood all over the place.

Yeah, when you get too many people it becomes silly. I'd love to play through Half Life 2 with a few other people. Max four, I reckon, or it's too easy.

Synergy - CLIENT TIMEOUT
INS - Microsoft Visual C++ Error

Good stuff. :\

This is so god damn problematic.
I can't join any Synergy servers.

Connection times out for them all.

Also, the fact that you need all of the f*cking HL2 games installed is god damned insane. :frown:

Yeah, I get the time out problem as well. It's weird.

Fixed the problem.

You have to click on Games List in the menu and mount all of the games.

Syngergy looked very good, untill I realised it was just a patience game, "how long can you bear the bugs before ragequitting?".

but are there only MULTIPLAYER not a singel "Singelplayer" game have been put on there.

So how do I removed the games from my list?
Could you be a little more clear what you are trying to do? Are you trying to remove the mods you've just installed? Or something else?

I believe he doesn't want them listed in his Games list under "Not Installed"

Download is taking forever. Still only have Age of Chivalry and Synergy installed. Synergy is rather unstable, very easy, only places were you actually have a change of failure are the few jumping puzzles. Age of Chivalry is decent, very slowpaced, which is nice for a change, and bows are just win. And unlike Synergy, it's stable.

I think its great they are releasing Mods on Steam now, its good to eat up a bit of boredom and try something new. None of the Mods really keep me hooked for more than 10 minutes but never the less they are all something different, and playing Zombie Panic is like a light hearted warm up for Left 4 Dead. :)
