Technically they're better in source imo, though DoD:S could maybe do with some more map lovin'

The original DOD is about 100x more awesome than DOD:S, and I love DOD:S. I can give you a huge list of reasons or you can just take my word for it.

I voted for original CS as well, mostly because I don't like how Valve nerfed assault and militia. 1.5 ftw.

I sabotaged your poll, ha!

I never really been into CS or DoD. I mean they were good mods, but nothing really special. Sven Coop was the shit back in the day. My favourite mods were: Scientist Hunt, Action Half-Life, Surprise (also known as PS07). There was also Natural Selection, Firearms (battle cry!), Frontline Forces, Wastes, some mod with middle east theme (it was featured on GIGA).

With regard to CS 1.6 and CSS (I played both a lot a while back) and CS 1.6 is streets ahead in terms of fun. I really tried to love CSS but I detest it now.

I played DOD 1.3 (was that the last version?) no where near as often, but the comparison to DOD:S yet again missed the gameplay edge and I don't get any enjoyment out that either.

I'm not a complete party pooper...I prefer TF2 to TFC :p

To many here, nostalgia will trump all--but the player hours tell the real story.

I voted DODS and CSS, and I even played them way back in the day. My Nostalgia Goggles must be busted.

Voted for CSS(haven't played DoD). I enjoy 1.5, 1.6 and CSS but Source is easier on the eyes.

The GoldSrc versions of both games were better than their Source version, with Day of Defeat having the largest disparity in content. I still have fun with DoD:S, but it doesn't keep me up endlessly through the night like the original did. :(

This times at least a thousand. DOD was completely amazing, I played it to death. DOD Source was not fun to play, and is one of my worst game purchases ever.

I still kind of like CSS, but 1.3 will always hold a special place in my heart.

Could that last one be Desert Crisis or Global Operation?

CSS is definitely an upgrade (and even it is looking kinda crappy these days), but I dunno about Day of Defeat. I was really, really good at the first one on the HL1 engine... like... really good. :p But I think I played DoD Source for about 5 minutes and I've never touched it again.

I believe it is Global Warfare. I always wanted to play it.

Edit: Oh man, I completely forgot about Rocker Crowbar. You could play as NPC characters. There was another team-based mod called Swarm. It was set in Half-Life universe where you control human or alien forces.

Global Operations was a PC game that was kind of a next-gen (at the time) CS1.6. Desert Crisis sounds like a mod though.

Yeah, I heard a lot about Global Operations. I got it from my cousin, but the CD-Key was missing so I never managed to install it. Deset Crisis is indeed a mod.

There was a Global Warfare mode and a Desert Crisis mod. I played both a lot, and I honestly thought Desert Crisis would be the next big thing when it came out, but no. :(

Oh man, I remember that. Worst crosshair ever. But, that was around the time when I was having the most fun with the game, so I still have fond memories.

Oh man, I so badly wanna go back and play all those old mods again. Sadly, last time I attempted that there were no players or servers for most of them.

The Source modding community has some cool stuff, but I don't get the same thrill or enjoyment out of it as I did back on the GoldSrc engine.

I love DOD:S still and I've been playing it fairly regularly since it came out, but 1.3 is still pretty much my favorite FPS ever. There's no comparison... the guns/classes in the old one are better, the maps are better and there are about 10x as many of them, movement was better, everything. Brits, FG42s, dod_caen, dod_saints, dod_forest, etc. Too bad the community these days is primarily concerned with realism scrims. I look back on the early 2000s as my glory days of FPS, even over the late 90s with UT and HL1... god, I miss the old Day of Defeat.

I can't believe so many people have voted for the Source version of DoD. It makes me sick!

I'm going to reinstall it and see if it's really as bad as I remember it being.

[edit] I can't do it. I click "install game" and I get this bad feeling in my soul, like in six hours a terrible experience will befall me.

I didn't like the last couple CS versions. I have very little play time with 1.6. I played 1.4 and 1.5 but it wasn't as fun. 1.3 and prior were awesome. I remember when steam beta and CS 1.4 came out. That was interesting...

I go back and forth with my opinion of DOD source. DOD was awesome though.

I think my favourite version is 7.1 - it had controllable brush-based vehicles.
