South park vs. The Simpsons

Which do you all like more? I like South Park, but the Simpsons is so close behind It's hard to decide.

Altough I just watched season 7 of SP and laughed my ass off, The Simpsons is generally more entertaining, not in a hilarious joke kind of way (altough there are plenty of great jokes) but it's also just fun to watch besides all the jokes

I haven't watch south park recently, but I prefer more intelligent humor over bathroom humor. South Park can be amusing at times, but when I sit back and think about it all the things that are "funny" on south park.... i suddenly realize that there's a reason i haven't watched the show since i was 16 or 17... (i'm 21 now). i've got simpsons seasons 1-3 on dvd (woot!) and love them all... except for the first season, the animation was kinda crappy...

South Park does have some pretty intelligent jokes in it, much more than the Simpsons IMO. It's just that the overall irony and theme in SP episodes goes over most of the population who watch's its head. I don't think Simpsons is funny at all.

NOTE: I'm not trying to say that SP is an intelligent show, just moreso than it gets credit for.

Simpsons - More general humor, more family friendly

Southpark - More political humor, targets an older audience.

In a straight up comparison the Simposons is slightly ahead of South Park.

However, South Park can be at times much more intelligent than the Simpsons which is why if I were to actually buy the episodes of one or the other, Id get South Park.

The old South Parkers were just potty humor as you call it but the new ones aren't. Of course they still have that sort of stuff in there for the less intelligent people but theres more political jokes and stuff in there now.

I think a couple people touched on this above, but being a couple of days shy of 28 and having actually been around when The Simpson’s premiered, I have to say that South Park is much more "adult" and consequently funnier. The humor is satirical in nature and I think you need to be a bit more mature to really get it all. I find The Simpson’s unfunny simply because the jokes are so "simple". I'm honestly not trying to sound snobby, but understand that 10 years ago I might have found The Simpson’s funny, but South Park (strange as it may seem) is more "grown up".

I agree with that somewhat. I think Simpsons should have ended a long ways back. I've watched some of the newer episodes...and they're just not funny to me. Their show always seems to follow a formula for their jokes.

-Homer being dumb
-Someone saying one thing...then the next second doing the complete opposite
-Getting the entire town involved in almost every episode

They're losing originality.

South Park on the other hand is an entirely different show. I agree that some of the earlier episodes weren't as good and were more immature...but I think the show has grown up with its audience. Lots of episodes have become a lot more political. Pretty much every episode deals with current issues and how they affect the 4 main characters and how they learn about it.

Sure it's a formula...but it's different when the show follows a general idea...than when every joke does.

One recent episode dealt with music piracy. Another dealt with smoking.

Another thing that I find funny about the show is just the voices...and the sounds people make.

Even though Homer isn't exactly intelligent the humour in The Simpsons is far more intelligent. I mean it's not all served on a dish for you - you actually need to "solve the puzzle" yourself sometimes.

Simpsons used to be awsome.

Now, South Park has really evolved and is actually very funny, with a lot more intelligent jokes in it.
Simpsons sucks now, all the new ones focus completely on homer being dumb. It's just the same thing, almost new jokes, but it's just not nearly as funny anymore. If they brought back old Simpsons, then it would get my vote, but since I'm voting based on the stuff being turned out now, South Park gets my vote.

Yeah those shows were good, it showed their thoughts about those two issues much better than a million words could do.
The shows are always very recent and up t date, the last show I watched was with the captured Saddam Hussein, about two weeks after his capture.

The voices are good too, I love the way Butters talks

This is a tough one

Although the Simpsons has been going down hill recently (so much so they should stop making them rather than ruin a once great show) it still gets my vote. Many of us grew up with the Simpsons - have many happy memories of coming back from school and watching the show with my mates/family (my best friends last name is Simpson, he looks a bit like Homer - the novelty doesn't wear off XD)

South PArk is excellent imo. It's all good \o/

When was the last time you saw the Simpsons make passing reference to the contents of a Charles Dickens novel without informing the viewer? Never. However, there is a running joke in Southparkm that does.

In general, Southpark makes more jokes based off current events and references to other works of ficiton. In other words, you just have to know what theyre talking about for it to be funny, and if you dont know what theyre talking about, all you will see is the toilet humor they throw in.

At its most intelligent, Sothpark is much more intelligent than the Simpsons, but at the same time when it is at its least intelligent, it is much less intelligent than the Simpsons.

Well look at it this way, they are both cartoons and so will always have a general formula to them, but the Simpsons have been going for a lot longer than South Park. Everyone has been saying "oh the first South Park series were crap and the Simpsons used to be awesome", but if you think about it, the Simpsons was poor to begin with (re-runs of the first few series just dont do it for me anymore), got better, and better, reached a peak and is now on the way down cos of its long running-ness (). South Park is showing the same life cycle and so will eventually become poor again when it has been running for another 3-4 years

Anyway enough of my bullshit, i havent voted cos both of them make me laugh in different ways

Although I don't like South Park too much, but...if you're judgeing simpsons seasons 3 through 9 (including), then yea, Simpsons is way better than most shows out there, but if talking about seasons after that, they really got bad.

The Simpsons ownz, I can't believe I'm still addicted to it. All the characters, all the satire, all the contrasts are all great.

And South Park isn't targeted at an older audience, it's targeted at immature grownups/poop-humour kiddies/teenager boys. Please don't misunderstand me, I think it rocks alot too. Some episodes are really great, like "War", hehe.
