Well with the first HL I bought it like 6 months after it was out, and all I heard was how great MP was. But I did play the single player, almost beat it, but MP just attracted me alot more. This time though, I think I will play all the way through SP then play MP. I have played MP for the last 4 years, I need SP!

first i'll play sp then more sp and then even more sp and then guess what EVEN MORE SP i'll probably never play mp for two reasons, 1. my comp will barley be able to handle hl2 and 2. i'm afraid very afraid there are some crazy players on hl they will kill me in a second.

I'm a fair player online in most games. DON"T give me a sniping weapon though. As I'll own the map. I have a nack in most games to get to places people never look, and sitting there with a load of ammo. 
(Usually not one place, I usually have about six per large map)
of course, I hold my own on the ground as well.
I'm hoping HL2 ships with MP bots. Because frankly, there are very few games i can play online.
HL, JKii, BF1942, Unreal Tourny, TREAD MARKS! and WoT.
I'd LOVE to be able to play UT2k3 and HL2 online though.

that's true it does help to be there from the start so you can get a pretty good hold of the game

that is what always irks me...
in MP I can have ten people attacking me with various weapons, beat them all...
in SP...hit a hard spot, and hit God mode...
I HATE CHEAT CODES!!!
I hope they make the consol the way HL1 was...you had to do special things to get it

Sounds wierd but I know the feeling... if I encouter an overly difficult or boring spot in a SP game I have an overpowering urge just to cheat past it... a lot of the time in the original HL I'd think I was causing chaos with godmode on only to try and disable it and discover that I'd somehow managed to go on a killing spree without any cheats
But yeah, I reckon I'll try SP before MP too, particularily as Steam might be annoying to create an account with from 56k... so I'll get all psyched up on SP first :cheese:

No game needs a connection that fast, ping is more effected by the quality of the connection and distance, most games still try and keep the bandwidth usage down to a level where a 56ker can use it, meaning anyone with a decent connection should be able to play without any problems at all on a good server.
SP or MP is a hard call atm considering Valve are being pretty tight lipped about the MP. I'd have to say SP right now but if the MP is really good I'll probably get sucked into it and then it I'd definately play more MP than SP.

You people need to get broadband. Playing with that kind of ping is unfair to yourself. Believe me, if you get killed 20 times in a row it's not because you suck, but because your ping is too high.

I will play single player first, after i reach a tough puzzle i'll go to multiplayer and shoot some ant lions with my brothers. I really hope there's bots cause 56k sucks
Seeing as how the ant lions are in mass amounts and one of the newest features never seen in a game... I am 90% sure there is a mode where it's coop against them in multiplyer it'd be an easy step to make for Valve and a highly unique experience like Starship troopers.

Whether or not I choose to invoke a cheat code really depends on the situation. When I play games, I like to have fun, and occasionally I'll run up against a scenario that is simply too frustrating to conceivably be considered fun. I'm not talking about times when the game gets challenging as I'm always up for a solid challenge. I'm talking specifically about those instances where you've been stuck at a point for 30 minuts or more, simply unable to beat it and continue. In those situations, I'll gladly use a cheat code so I can on with actually enjoying the game.Originally posted by A2597

Yeah, Half Life was one of the few FPS where I've totally resisted the urge to try out god mode and end up mowing through a few levels.
Another thing that bugs me is that everything since quake seems to just make it "god", I remember there was some weird keyboard sequence in DOOM to unlock god mode(and I'm sure someone still remembers it), they dont even try and hide cheat codes now.
Damn, I hate having to resort to will power :E
