OK, i formatted yesterday and i've got a few troubles...

Firstly, I installed SP2 for Win XP and then my internet wouldnt work... i tried resetting my modem, repairing the network connection, going through network setup again, reinstalling the drivers, setting everything to auto detect settings... and i couldn't get it to work. I had to do a system restore back to SP1 (which is probably the cause of my next problem)... But, do you have any ideas why it wont work? It's never done it to me before :(

Next, i installed steam and went to play Counter-Strike: Source, but then windows throws an error in my face saying hl2.exe has encountered a problem and had to close... I've verified my files for both CSS and HL2, i re-downloaded the CSS GCF file. No good. No other source game works either. Any ideas why? Do i have to redownload everything again? I hope not :(
**I FIXED THE PROBLEM WITH STEAM/HL2**

Thanks for any help, you guys rock.

Reformat, reinstall Windows, Micro$haft blows.

I honestly think that, while SP2 is the cause of a lot of problems, you could have kept SP2 and fixed your problem there. It was probably a safety feature or SP2's built in firewall that was keeping you out, and it just needed to be disabled. Now? I think you should reformat, you're just digging a bigger hole at this point. Try to not just reinstall over things that are not working, but Delete Completely, then install.

I formatted, installed SP2... inet didnt work. Then i formatted a second time and installed SP2, again, it didn't work. I wasn't in the mood for formatting three times in one day. I'll probably format again end of this week.

Oh, and the windows firewall was turned off. I turned off Norton Internet security too... nothing.

Maybe it's hardware related then, something might not be working quite right, possibly even drivers for the hardware.
