I've got to hand in a uni project today which is a piece of code and some documentation. The thing is it only takes up 1.74 MB, small enough to fit on a floppy disk, and I'm going to have to put it on a DVD since I don't have any writeable CD's. 1.74 mb on a medium that can take 4.7 GB, it feels...dirty and wastful somehow. I know writeable DVD's are dirt cheap nowadays, in fact the ones I've got are cheaper than they sell writeable CD's at uni. Not only that but I'll might have to make 2 copies, that means I'm wasting nearly 10 gigs.

Yes, this post was completely useless but it's 2 in the morning where I am and I need some moral support.

Backup your collection of porn on it, as much as possible anyway? (if teacher is male and relatively young)

Alternatively, Put it on a floppy/ZIP disk and just write THIS IS A DVD in sharpie on it.

Or you can burn in nerd hell forever.

Err, don't you mean it's too BIG to fit on a floppy? Most floppies are 1.44MB, so your 1.74 is too BIG, not too small. Hence your problem being that you need to put it on a DVD, and thus wasting space. Otherwise your predicament makes no sense, if taken how you wrote it. Unless you are REQUIRED to put it on an optical media, but you didn't say that.
 
It's ok, you can do it! I mean, the population of perth is about 1.5-2 million (not sure what exactly) but we could easily fit another 10 million or so people. Just be secure in the knowledge that you are not the only space waster in this world.

1.74 unzipped. RAR it down and it's half a meg. I don't think I'll do that to put it on a DVD though. And yes, we are required to provide it on a CD/DVD due to the unreliability of floppy disks.
 
Never put shit on a floppy regardless of whether it fits. Half the time it won't even read it anyway. Atleast to my experience...
 
Your uni has never heard of emaiL? You couldn't just email it to your professor?
 
put your child porn on it. Thats what I told the other kid, seemed to work out for him.

Should have also said that too. Wouldn't everyone be in the same situation as you? Why did no-one question the teacher on it? Why is there no email address set up for this sort of thing? What kind of school is this? A school for ants? It needs to be at least...3 times bigger.

I wasted 3 CD-Rs (not RW) today because I couldn't get a bootable RAM diagnostic tool to work.

I smashed the third one.

And by your remark, I take it that you actually prefer people to leave out important information in a post, they way you harass me for merely pointing that out to him. I also guess you don't understand jokes either. And haven't seen Zoolander. When you are old enough, go check it out. It's quite funny.
 
Floppy? Haven't used one almost 10 years now. If I have something that's too small for a cd/dvd. Pen/thumb/jump drive works great, they're dirt cheap these days too.
 
put a couple gigs worth of text files saying how much you hate your teacher.
 
Just think... babies born after 2000 will grow up and ask the question, "What the F*CK is A drive?! Please insert floppy? What the f*ck is that?!" Aaah the future.
 
In reference to the e-mail question, i can't think of an Uni in the UK that would accept anything e-mail'd as a final piece of asessed work, I know i'm not allowed to

I used zip disks at Uni for handing work in. Towards the end I stopped caring and just gave lecturers my flash drive.

The moral of the story? Don't waste good DVDs. Remember, there are children in the third world without any DVDs. Use a flash drive.
 
OK, I took your suggestions on board and filled it with pr0n and illegal music. I hope it gets me some more marks! :D :dork:

Qonfused, quit being confrontational. I did not see anything wrong in Shasta's post. He was merely confused by the lack of information provided by the OP, and tied it off with a good (imo) joke once it was resolved, PEACEFULLY. Even if you didn't find the joke funny, I don't see any trace of flaming. The only one flaming is you, Qonf, deciding to randomy critisize Shasta.

Even the original poster can see Shasta didn't intend any negativity that you're apparantly finding out of nowhere, so stop trying to speak for him.

Conclusion: Shasta was just speaking clearly and making sure he was making himself understandable. On the internet, this usually comes across as him being critical of the person he's talking to or even in a negative way.

I am accused of doing the same thing.

The horror of it is, when someone else points that out, the person then says "what are you talking about, I wasn't flaming" and the other guy says "oh look he's getting defensive" and a ****ing argument erupts all because of a misunderstanding.

Internet lesson number 1: Never assume, remember you are reading text, not feeling.
Smileys generally tend to help.
