Lets start from the beginning. A month or two ago, I had to replace my computer power supply. After i did this, my computer could not find my OS (XP) upon startup, so right now im booting up using the cd and everythings working fine. Except my speakers. Theyre plugged in and im getting a static noise that goes away for a second when a sound occurs. I plugged in headphones and they are doing the same thing. I have checked all of my volume controls and they are all all the way up/ not muted. Anyone have any ideas?

Get the latest drivers for your sound card/mobo? Reinstall current drivers?

its possible something may have fried, if you are referring to replacing a dead power supply. the sound card is connected to the motherboard directly so it may have.

It is possible, but hopefully not.

It sounds like his OS isn't even stable. Running windows from a boot disc? Get that sorted first.

It sounds like the power supply fried part of his computer, or when he was changing out his power supply, somebody forgot to ground oneself.

If your OS is installed, then you have to install drivers for some things. If it's onboard sound, then you need to install the chipset drivers for your computer. You can get those from the computer manufacturers website usually.

If it's an aftermarket sound card, then you have to install the software for it, whether it came with a CD or you download it.
