'Tis the season to be jolly and my dad's feeling rather jolly and said i can have some speakers for xmas.

So i went away and had a look at some retail websites (he doesn't want to buy online, so that kinda closes some doors to me).

Anyway, i found these:
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/st...null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=437685&category_oid=

Philips MMS460 5.1 Speakers

They seemed to be pretty decent for the price and for what i'd use them for. I'd use them for games, movies and music (pretty much all you can use speakers for :p)

Though i'm not too knowledgable on audio and speakers and were wondering if these were any good.
Also, suggestions would be cool. Try to keep them around the £60-80 range if you can, maybe a little higher. But for the price i think these would be the best. But then again i hardly know anything about speakers and the like.

I have an Audigy 4 7.1 sound card (for xmas) and i'd like a set of 5.1 or 7.1 speakers.

Thanks for any help!

I don't have that much to spend. Anyway, if i was going to get those i'd pay a bit extra myself and get the Z5500's. My friend has the Z5500's and they kick arse.

3 words. Logitech Logitech Logitech. The speakers that ة الأسئلة الشائع (wtf...) posted are awesome! Get any of Logitech's 5.1 or 7.1 sets.

Like i said i can't buy from an online store... Kinda closes lots of doors for me.
I'll search about see if i can find any in some shops.

I have these and they are awesome compared to my old Creative 5.1 set. If you don't need 5.1 for movies and just want good sound for music and games this are great for the price. They are more powerful than a lot of 5.1 speaker sets in the same price range.

Can you find those in a local store?

I have seen them in one of my local stores but i can't seem to find them on thier web pages.
I would prefer a 5.1 set for my games, music doesn't really use 5.1. And i don't mind movies being in 2.1. But i really would like my games to sound better.

They work good for a 5.1 system. Logitech always sound good.

The reason I opted for the 2.1 system is because I can turn them up louder without sound quality going down since they have more watts. It's preference I guess. I had 5.1 and always hated turning up my 99$ creative speakers because the sound would start to get distorted.

Well, i can't really turn it up full... I've got a big fish tank in the room too and it'd kill the fish :(

I've had 2.0 all my life. I wanna get a 5.1 experience with my games :)

You will not kill the fish. I have a 55 gallon fish tank and to top it off they are Saltwater fish (extremely sensitive) and I turn it up full, They should be ok

Hmmm, we'll see. It's up to my dad, they're his fish. Would rather not kill them ;)

And my tank is like 120 gallon I think. My fish > yours :p

Get a job and save up money for the klipsch system. I have heard many speakers and the klipsch are by far the best I have ever heard. That is probally why they cost so much...but it is by far worth it.

They don't sell that system round here anywhere. I don't think they even sell them in the country. Don't fancy shipping them from America/Canada...

Well...it would be worth it. The system you linked is a pretty cheap 5.1 so don't expect much anything in the quality category. Also cheap speakers tend to die rather soon. That is why I always suggest going for the nice sets of speakers. They sound exponentially better and last a lot longer.

Well my current speakers have lasted me... 3 years? Maybe more. And these were pretty cheap.
The reviews for these speakers are good, and they're saying these are the best speakers for their price range.
And to be honest, i don't really want to spend that much on speakers. Would rather spend it on something more worthwhile. I'm not an audiophile. As long as the quality is decent and listenable without distortion and all that. I'm happy. :)

im also considering the logitech x-530 setup, ive heard almost all positive things so far, and their pretty cheap, and you can plug them into your dvd player, or game console which is sweet

Ahh. Yeah then go with them. I just can't stand bad speakers...it is amazing how much you lose with them. Oh well...it's just me I guess heh.

Enjoy your new speakers...and go with an extended warranty if you can. Speakers can last forever or die off unexpectedly soon.

It's just down to taste I guess. Don't get me wrong... I'd love some godlike speakers... But i'm not a rich little gamer :p
I'll enjoy them ;) Just need to convince my parents to let me screw them to the walls now :D
